Molecular characterization and genetic diversity of Staphylococcus aureus isolates of dairy production farms in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2021
Staphylococcus aureus is an important pathogen involved in subclinical bovine mastitis, causing high economic losses for the dairy industry. The successful persistence of this pathogen in the host occurs due to a series of factors associated with ...

Neurovascular Contacts in the Pathophysiology of Neuralgic Amyotrophy: An Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuralgic amyotrophy (NA) is a prevalent, monophasic, multifocal immune‐mediated neuropathy. A distinctive characteristic of the disease is the occurrence of nerve or fascicle constrictions and torsions (NA‐associated focal nerve lesions, NAFL). The pathophysiology underlying this phenomenon remains to be fully elucidated.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Reversible third-degree atrioventricular block in a Poodle-Toy with degenerative mitral valve disease and pyometra

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2021
Third degree atrioventricular block is a severe arrhythmia, being the most common   indication for artificial cardiac pacing in dogs. Spontaneous reversion to normal sinus rhythm is very rare or exceptional.

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...
