Cost and Benefits from Infrastructure Competition. Estimating Welfare Effects from Broadband Access Competition [PDF]

open access: yes
Competition between parallel infrastructures incorporates opposing welfare effects. The gain from reduced deadweight loss might be outweighed by the inefficient duplication of an existing infrastructure.

Investigating the Relation Between Second Language Proficiency and Study Success Using a Causal Inference Approach

open access: yesLanguage Learning, Volume 76, Issue 1, Page 132-175, March 2026.
Abstract Prior research suggests that second language (L2) proficiency is key in students’ study progress, but this research has mainly been carried out at universities. It is thus unclear how this relation varies across different educational levels. Moreover, previous studies are often not informative about the causality of this relation, making it ...

Socioeconomic Factors Associated With Diet Quality in Pregnancy: A Cross‐Sectional Australian Study

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, Volume 22, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Prenatal diet affects maternal and child health; however, adherence to dietary guidelines in pregnancy is low. This cross‐sectional study aimed to describe overall diet quality and to examine relationships between socioeconomic factors and diet quality in a sample of Australian pregnant women. Participants (n = 1580) completed an online survey

Timing of NAD Deficiency During Organogenesis Dictates Defect Type and Penetrance

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 3, 15 February 2026.
Pregnant mice on a vitamin B3‐free and tryptophan‐limited diet have embryos with Congenital NAD Deficiency Disorder, characterized by malformations and/or death. We longitudinally tracked the maternal NAD metabolome, embryo growth, and malformation occurrence. Mice with lower NAD Salvage Pathway metabolite levels and minimal levels of derived excretion

Evaluation of subgrid scale models in turbulent large eddy simulations of pumpjet propulsor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
To assess the effectiveness of subgrid scale (SGS) models on the prediction results of unsteady loads and turbulent fluctuation of pumpjet propulsors equipped with both front and rear stators, a pumpjet propulsor computational model with attached parts ...

Radiographic imaging of the entheses of the equine thoracic foot

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 198, Issue 4, Page e166-e175, 14/21 February 2026.
Abstract Background An injury of a tendon or ligament of the equine foot is frequently a cause of lameness. The optimal radiographic projections delineating the entheses of five commonly injured tendons and ligaments of the foot should be described. Methods The entheses of the collateral ligaments of the distal interphalangeal joint, the collateral ...

Transcriptomic signatures during normothermic liver machine perfusion correspond with graft quality and predict the early graft functionResearch in context

open access: yesEBioMedicine
Summary: Background: A better understanding of the molecular events during liver normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) is warranted to develop a data-based approach for the identification of biomarkers representative of graft quality and posttransplant ...

CELLama: Foundation Model for Single Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics by Cell Embedding Leveraging Language Model Abilities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 7, 3 February 2026.
CELLama is created, a framework that harnesses language models to convert cellular data into “sentences” that represent gene expression and metadata, enabling a universal embedding of cells. Unlike most single‐cell foundation models, CELLama supports scalable analysis and offers flexible applications including spatial transcriptomics.
