Parallel Implementation of a Corrected DSMC Method

2001
In the paper it is suggested a correction of the Bird's algorithm in the DSMC method. It takes account of real distribution of collision events inside the time steps Δt and actual trajectories for the collided particles there thus diminishing asymptotical order of the error in time evolution from O(Δt) to O((Δt)2).

DSMC/Continuum hybrid methods

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001
In the past decade a number of hybrid methods, which combine Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) algorithms, have been proposed. The motivation for developing such hybrids is primarily the computational expense of DSMC relative to continuum CFD schemes.

A Practical Variance Reduced DSMC Method

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
The goal of this work is to develop a practical method for simulating low‐signal kinetic (and small‐scale) gaseous flows. These flows have recently received renewed attention in connection with the design, manufacturing, and optimization of MEMS/NEMS devices operating in gaseous environments; they are typically described using the Boltzmann equation ...

Efficient CUDA implementation in the DSMC method

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
An algorithm of DSMC computations on several graphic processor units (GPUs) is proposed. The efficiency of this algorithm is demonstrated. The computational efficiency of one GPU is equivalent to 10-30 processors of a computational cluster based on multicore CPUs.

Analysis of Repeated Collisions in the DSMC Method

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
By the example of one‐dimensional problems of heat transfer and Couette flow, the influence of the statistical dependence between the simulated molecules on the deviation of the numerical solution obtained by the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method from the solution of the Boltzmann equation is considered.

Analysis of Numerical Errors in the DSMC Method

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is one of the most popular numerical methods used to model rarefied gas environment flows. In order to predict the accuracy of a solution obtained by the DSMC method we have to be able to estimate its accuracy.

The Treatment of Molecular Collisions in DSMC Methods

Molecular Simulation, 1995
Abstract We describe Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) methods which model systems under low pressure with emphasis on the treatment of molecular collisions in DSMC methods. According to the treatment of molecular collisions, several variants of DSMC methods can be distinguished. This work compares some versions of DSMC methods (Bird's time counter,

An Improved Adaptive Decomposition Method in Parallel DSMC

2010 International Conference on Internet Technology and Applications, 2010
A general parallel direct simulation Monte Carlo method may result in a strongly unbalanced distribution of work, which leading to very low speedups. In this paper, load balancing between processors is achieved based on an improved adaptive decomposition technique.

Hydrogen-Oxygen Detonation Study by the DSMC Method

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
The DSMC method was applied to perform a numerical study of detonation in an H2/O2 mixture with detailed chemical kinetics at the molecular level. Collision chemistry models were modified to correctly reproduce the chemical equilibrium in mixtures of polyatomic molecules.
