Once upon a time.... Dual mobility: history

International Orthopaedics, 2016
Since 1962, the low friction arthroplasty developed by Sir John Charnley has given us very good long terms results at more than 40 years follow up, but dislocation remains a major complication. The dislocation rate is a permanent risk during the life of the patient and the prosthesis, defined by J. Caton and D.

Evolution and New Generation of Dual Mobility Cups

Orthopedics, 2023
Although total hip arthroplasty (THA) is considered a successful procedure, hip dislocation remains the main cause of early failure. Dual mobility cups (DMCs) have been shown to significantly reduce the dislocation rate in both primary and revision THAs. During the past several decades, DMCs have evolved in design and fixation interface.

Providing transparent internet mobility for dual-interfaced mobile devices

International Journal of Wireless and Mobile Computing, 2008
Ubiquitous networking is definitely real to the mobile users; however, transparent mobility is certainly a challenge. Seamless roaming in hybrid and integrated environments demands a seamless intra-network as well as inter-network handoff mechanism for minimising any service disruption to on-going flows during switchovers.

Dual-Mobility Cups in Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty

The Journal of Hip Surgery, 2021
AbstractDual-mobility cups (DMCs) were introduced in France more than 40 years ago and are increasingly used not only in hip revision but also primary hip arthroplasty. Due to a simulated large-head articulation and increased jumping distance, DMCs can contribute to a high range of motion in the hip joint and reduce the risk of instability.

Dual Mobility for Chronic Instability

Seminars in Arthroplasty, 2011
A dual mobility cup consists of a large, fixed, porous coated acetabular component and a bipolar femoral component (a "tripolar" implant). The cup was developed to reduce the incidence of dislocation in patients at risk of instability who required primary or revision total hip replacement.

Indexing mobile objects using dual transformations

The VLDB Journal, 2005
With the recent advances in wireless networks, embedded systems, and GPS technology, databases that manage the location of moving objects have received increased interest. In this paper, we present indexing techniques for moving object databases. In particular, we propose methods to index moving objects in order to efficiently answer range queries ...

Dual Mobility in Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Bulletin of the Hospital for Joint Disease (2013), 2022
Dual mobility designs in total arthroplasty allow for increased range of motion prior to impingement and dislocation. While valuable for reducing dislocation, dual mobility has its own unique complication profile that includes intraprosthetic dislocation, corrosion, and femoral notching.

Dual mobility cups in revision total hip arthroplasty

International Orthopaedics, 2016
The purpose of our study was to evaluate the dislocation and aseptic loosening rates of a dual mobility construct in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA).Three hundred thirty-four revision THAs performed between 2006 and 2011, using a dual mobility cup, were included in this retrospective study. The indications for revision were aseptic loosening (70%)

GSPN analysis of dual-band mobile telephony networks

Proceedings 8th International Workshop on Petri Nets and Performance Models (Cat. No.PR00331), 2003
In this paper we present detailed and compact GSPN models for the performance analysis, design, and planning of cellular mobile telephony networks in which the utilization of two separate frequency bands for the provision of services to end users (like in dual-band GSM systems) complicates the cellular structure with the presence of microcells and ...

Dual Transmission Architecture for Mobile Multicasting

2003
With the popularity of mobile devices, Internet service providers are interested in supporting mobile applications. Mobile IP standards have been developed without considering multicast services. This paper explores the issues of multicasting for mobile hosts and problems of previous approaches, and proposes dual-transmission architecture for mobile ...
