Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Ternary structures in Hilbert spaces

open access: yes, 2011
PhDTernary structures in Hilbert spaces arose in the study of in nite dimensional manifolds in di erential geometry. In this thesis, we develop a structure theory of Hilbert ternary algebras and Jordan Hilbert triples which are Hilbert spaces equipped

The doubled geometry of nilmanifold reductions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
A class of special holonomy spaces arise as nilmanifolds fibred over a line interval and are dual to intersecting brane solutions of string theory. Further dualities relate these to T-folds, exotic branes, essentially doubled spaces and spaces with R ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Genericity and amalgamation of classes of Banach spaces

open access: yes, 2007
We study universality problems in Banach space theory. We show that if A is an analytic class, in the Effros–Borel structure of subspaces of C([0,1]), of non-universal separable Banach spaces, then there exists a non-universal separable Banach space Y ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Minimizing measures of risk by saddle point conditions. [PDF]

open access: yes
The minimization of risk functions is becoming a very important topic due to its interesting applications in Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Mathematics. This paper addresses this issue in a general framework.

Dual Basis Functions in Inner Product Spaces

open access: yes, 2013
Dual basis functions are well-studied in the literature for certain inner product spaces. In this paper, we introduce dual basis functions in subspaces of inner product spaces.

Deconstructing an “Elementary Proof”: The Case of L^*_p = L_q

open access: yesRevista Integración
Chapter 11 of N. L. Carothers’ A Short Course on Banach Space Theory includes a section entitled “An elementary proof that L^*_p = L_q”. We argue that the argument, while elegant, is not elementary in any standard pedagogical sense: it relies on ...
