Tau-crystallin/alpha-enolase: one gene encodes both an enzyme and a lens structural protein. [PDF]
tau-Crystallin has been a major component of the cellular lenses of species throughout vertebrate evolution, from lamprey to birds. Immunofluorescence analysis of the embryonic turtle lens, using antiserum to lamprey tau-crystallin showed that the ...

Liver development was investigated at different embryonic ages (EAs). Furthermore, numerous hepatocyte media were formulated and evaluated. These results could elaborate the developmental characteristics of duck liver tissue and determine the most suitable medium for the proliferation and characteristic maintenance of hepatocytes in vitro, which would ...

Truncation of the NS1 protein converts a low pathogenic avian influenza virus into a strong interferon inducer in duck cells [PDF]
The NS1 protein of influenza A viruses is known as a nonessential virulence factor inhibiting type I interferon (IFN) production in mammals and in chicken cells. Whether NS1 inhibits the induction of type I IFNs in duck cells is currently unknown.

Field samples from breeder duck farms with egg‐production decline were subjected to viral detection, genome sequencing, and virus isolation. Experimental infection demonstrated that duck orbivirus (DORV) causes a significant and persistent reduction in egg production in breeder ducks.

Time-activity budgets of stiff-tailed ducks in Puerto Rico
Habitat loss and degradation have contributed to declining populations of stiff-tailed ducks including the migratory northern ruddy duck (Oxyura jamaicensis rubida), and non-migratory masked duck (Nomonyx dominicus) and West Indian ruddy duck (Oxyura j ...

Reception Baseline Assessment and ‘small acts’ of micro‐resistance
Abstract In September 2021, following the global COVID‐19 pandemic, the Department for Education introduced a national standardised digital Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) for all English 4‐year‐old children. We analyse RBA and its associated Quality Monitoring Visits, as a further intensification of the new public management of early years ...

The spread of non‐native species
ABSTRACT The global redistribution of species through human agency is one of the defining ecological signatures of the Anthropocene, with biological invasions reshaping biodiversity patterns, ecosystem processes and services, and species interactions globally.

Studies on the fitting effect of egg production curve in duck using Wood model
The laying rate at the age of 68 weeks of 3 duck breeds, namely Shaoxing duck, Khaki-Campbell duck and Gaoyou duck, was fitted by Wood's model, which gave R2 values of 0.6098, 0.5338 and 0.7935, respectively, for the 3 breeds.

ABSTRACT Oropharyngeal food processing exhibits a remarkable diversity among vertebrates, reflecting the evolution of specialised ‘processing centres’ associated with the mandibular, hyoid, and branchial arches. Although studies have detailed various food‐processing strategies and mechanisms across vertebrates, a coherent and comprehensive terminology ...
