Variation of ductile-brittle transition temperature with grain size
Strength of Materials, 19771. The variation of the ductile-brittle transition temperature with grain size is determined not only by the temperature dependence of the yield strength but also by the temperature dependence of the surface energy of brittle cracks. 2.

Ductile–brittle transition temperature of polylactic acid-based biocomposite
Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, 2011Almost all materials exhibit sensitivity of mechanical properties to temperature. Polylactic acid (PLA), an amorphous polymeric material, also exhibits this type of behavior. Because of its limited application in structural purpose, very few journals and articles study the ductile–brittle transition temperature (DBTT) of polymeric materials ...

Stress relaxation and the ductile-brittle transition temperature of molybdenum
Acta Metallurgica, 1966Abstract The technique of stress relaxation has been used to study plastic deformation prior to yielding or fracture in molybdenum specimens which were tested both above and below the ductile-brittle transition temperature. From the results, it was found that some dislocations were mobile prior to brittle fracture, lending support to the ideas ...

Abstract The change in the ductile-brittle transition temperature of polycrystalline chromium produced by subjecting specimens to a hydrostatic pressure, P, in the range 5–31 kbars and then testing at atmospheric pressure was investigated. The transition temperature, Tt, for the as-recrystallized material was ∼550°K and only treatments above 6 kbars ...

Ductile–brittle transition in micropillar compression of GaAs at room temperature
Philosophical Magazine, 2011Experiments have been carried out on how compressive failure of axis GaAs micropillars at room temperature is influenced by their diameter. Slip was observed in all micropillars, often on intersecting slip planes. Cracks could nucleate at these intersections and then grow axially in the sample, with bursts of crack growth.

A recently developed ductile/brittle theory of materials failure is evaluated. The failure theory applies to all homogeneous and isotropic materials. The determination of the ductile/brittle transition is an integral and essential part of the failure theory.

Effect of purity on the ductile-brittle transition temperature of alloy G29
Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 19831. The exceedingly high cold resistance that is characteristic of alloy G29 of high purity is not observed for the alloy with 29% Mn with a higher concentration of nitrogen and carbon. 2. Because of the austenitizing effect of carbon and nitrogen, the boundary of the phase areas on the Fe-Mn diagram shifts to lower manganese ...

The effect of different mineral fillers (Talc, calcium carbonate, clay, mica) on the tougheningbehavior and ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) of TPOs composites has beeninvestigated in the paper. An attempt was made to investigate impact strength to determine theDBTT of the mineral-modified TPO composite system by employing a series of ...

The author deduces required dependence on the ground of consideration of thermodynamic potential at ductile-brittle transition under stresses, having assumed power dependence of coefficients on temperature. Calculated results are compared with the Moessbauer spectra observations.

Constraint Effect on Fracture in Ductile-Brittle Transition Temperature Region (Report 3)
Volume 1: Codes & Standards, 2023Abstract In order to predict fracture behavior in the ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) region of a structure with low constraint, a plastic constraint correction coefficient χ was proposed. It was defined as a ratio of KJ of a fracture toughness specimen to KJ of a reactor pressure vessel with a specific flaw shape with the ...
