Abstract A modified 9Cr–1Mo steel has been exposed to three separate normalization treatments i.e. at 950 °C, 1025 °C and 1100 °C from As-received (normalized at 1050 °C and tempered at 750 °C) condition. After subsequent tempering treatment the impact toughness in terms of upper shelf energy (USE) and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT)

The Effect of Fatigue on the Ductile-Brittle Transition Temperature of Two Mild Steels
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1966AbstractTwo notched, mild steels in artificial sea water at 24°C were fatigued in tension-compression for approximately 1 and 15 per cent of the fatigue life. The ductile-brittle transition temperature (dbtt) was evaluated by notchtensile tests and Standard Oil Development (SOD) tests. Fatiguing raised the dbtt by about 15 to 20°C.

Study on Ductile Brittle Transition Temperature of Q345C Steel MAG Welded Joints
Key Engineering Materials, 2016For Q345C steel MAG welded joints, low temperature tensile test was carried out at normal atmospheric temperature, 0°C,-20°C,-30°C and-40°C in the paper, which results in the law of strength change with temperature. The impact absorption energy of the weld seam sample under different temperature conditions was tested, impact fracture morphology was ...

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2014
ABSTRACTThe ductile–brittle transition temperature is not intrinsic to steel but depends on the specimen type and loading mode used for the test. The influence of these parameters is related to the plastic constraint. Here, the constraint is evaluated by the effective T‐stress obtained by the stress difference method on the notch tip stress ...

Strength, ductility, and ductile-brittle transition temperature for MFR candidate vanadium alloys
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1988Abstract The dependence of the yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and reduction in area on temperature for the V15Ti7.5Cr, V20Ti, V15Cr5Ti, V12Cr5Ti, V10Cr5Ti, and V3Ti1Si al temperatures ranging from 25 to 700°C. The strength of the alloys increased with an increase of the combined Cr and Ti concentration.

Reduction of the ductile brittle transition temperature of ferritic-martensitic alloy HT-9
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1984Abstract The effects of austenitization and tempering treatments on the impact properties of a 12 Cr-1 Mo-V-W steel are reported. Austenitizing temperatures covering the range 1000 to 1200°C and tempering treatments of 650 to 850°C were used. The greatest decrease in the ductile brittle transition temperature was found with a combination of “high-low”

Correlation of temperature and grain size effects in the ductile-brittle transition of molybdenum
Philosophical Magazine, 1965Abstract An experimental investigation of the effects of temperature and grain size on the tensile properties of high purity molybdenum showed that transitions from ductile to brittle behaviour occur with both decreasing temperature and increasing grain size.

Impact toughness scattering of bainitic steel in the ductile-brittle transition temperature region
Journal of Wuhan University of Technology-Mater. Sci. Ed., 2016The impact toughness scattering in the ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) region was experimentally examined on mixed and homogeneous grains of low alloy high strength bainitic steel under dynamic loading conditions. The results revealed that the mixed grain microstructure had larger impact toughness scattering than the homogeneous one, and ...

Specimen size effects on ductile–brittle transition temperature in Charpy impact testing
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2004Abstract One key issue for small specimen test techniques is to clarify specimen size effects on test results. In consideration of size effects on determining the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) in Charpy impact testing, a method to evaluate the plastic constraint loss for differently sized Charpy V-notch (CVN) specimens is proposed ...
