Application of the strain energy density criterion to ductile fracture [PDF]
The strain energy density criterion due to Sih is used to predict fracture loads of two thin plates subjected to large elastic-plastic deformation. The prediction is achieved with a finite element analysis which is based on Hill's variational principle for incremental deformations capable of solving gross yielding problems involving arbitrary amounts ...

A Criterion for Ductile Fracture by the Growth of Holes
From an available solution for the deformation of elliptical holes in a viscous material, a criterion is developed for fracture by the growth and coalescence of cylindrical holes under any prescribed history of applied principal components of stress and strain which do not rotate relative to the material.

Damage work as ductile fracture criterion
International Journal of Fracture, 1994This paper treats the ductile failure initiation in circumferentially-notched tension specimens and explores the local damage model that is able to represent the continuous degradation of the deforming material. With the aid of finite element calculations, the notched specimens have been simulated numerically and the whole strain-stress history for ...

The key point in this paper is the prediction of the onset of ductile fracture with a newly proposed ductile fracture criterion in various stress state ranging from shear to uniaxial tension. A series of tension tests with different material orientations are carried out up to fracture.

Prediction of fracture in hub-hole expanding process using a new ductile fracture criterion [PDF]
A hole expansion process is an important process in producing a hub-hole in a wheel disc of a vehicle. In this process, the main parameter is the formability of a material, which is expressed as the hole expansion ratio.
