The ductus arteriosus has a significant role in the fetal circulation connecting the main pulmonary artery to the aorta. Normally, after birth, it functionally closes within few hours but complete obliteration occurs at 2 to 3 weeks of age. Failure of the ductus arteriosus to close leads to the condition patent ductus arteriosus.

Pulmonary Artery Aneurysm Mimicking a Patent Ductus Arteriosus
Retrograde systolic flow in the main pulmonary artery (PA) is a hallmark echocardiographic sign of patent ductus arteriosus. We describe a case of PA aneurysm mimicking patent ductus arteriosus flow.

Velocity time integral for right upper pulmonary vein in VLBW infants with patent ductus arteriosus
OBJECTIVE: Early diagnosis of significant patent ductus arteriosus reduces the risk of clinical worsening in very low birth weight infants. Echocardiographic patent ductus arteriosus shunt flow pattern can be used to predict significant patent ductus ...

Transcriptional Evaluation of the Ductus Arteriosus at the Single-Cell Level Uncovers a Requirement for Vim (Vimentin) for Complete Closure [PDF]
ObjectiveFailure to close the ductus arteriosus, patent ductus arteriosus, accounts for 10% of all congenital heart defects. Despite significant advances in patent ductus arteriosus management, including pharmacological treatment targeting the ...
