Pharmacology of the Ductus Arteriosus
Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1981Dramatic advances in the understanding of the factors that control normal patency of the ductus arteriosus during fetal life and that allow its closure after birth have resulted in major new therapeutic approaches to the management of infants with congenital heart disease. Infusion of PGE 1 and PGE 2 have been used in several congenital malformations

Patent ductus arteriosus in adults is usually an isolated lesion with a small to moderate degree of shunt, as a larger shunt becomes symptomatic earlier in childhood. The classic murmur of patent ductus arteriosus may be the first clue to its presence, or it may be detected accidently by transthoracic echocardiography, computed tomography, or magnetic ...

Aneurysm of the nonpatent ductus arteriosus
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1972Abstract Clinical and necropsy findings are described in a 6 week old infant with aneurysm of the ductus arteriosus. It was obliterated at the pulmonary arterial end and patent at the aortic end. Observations in this case and in 60 previously described cases of ductal aneurysm disclosed that 46 of the aneurysms occurred in infants less than 2 months ...

In his monograph, Cassels provides an extensive discussion of the patent ductus arteriosus from almost every conceivable aspect. There are chapters dealing with ductal embryology, anatomy and histology, physiology, and clinical correlations. The author also deals with the patent ductus arteriosus in association with other cardiac defects, pulmonary ...

MEDICAL MANIPULATION OF THE DUCTUS ARTERIOSUS
The Lancet, 1975Prostaglandin E-1 was infused into two children with cyanotic congenital heart-disease where patency of the ductus arteriosus was necessary to maintain arterial oxygen saturation. With each infusion oxygen saturation rose, probably as a result of dilatation of the ductus.

Genetics of patent ductus arteriosus
Basic Research in Cardiology, 1975A genetic study of 119 correlative cases of patent ductus arteriosus has been performed. The isolated cases showed female predominance, but there was a three times higher risk for the sibs of male cases, suggesting a multifactorial causative mechanism.

Fetal and Maternal Medicine Review, 1990
The ductus arteriosus is a large vessel which connects the pulmonary trunk with the aorta. During fetal life it serves together with the foramen ovale as a shunt at cardiac level. Due to a complex regulatory mechanism it is capable of maintaining patency during fetal life and of rapid closure after birth.

Roentgenography of patent ductus arteriosus
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1964Abstract Conventional roentgenography of the chest in many instances may confirm the diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus. Right heart catheterization often establishes the diagnosis but cannot exclude with certainty an aorticopulmonary window, transposition of the great vessels and truncus arteriosus.

Ductus arteriosus (Ductus Botalli)
