Ultrasonographic velocimetry of the fetal ductus venosus
Lancet, The, 1991In fetal lambs, the ductus venosus shunts well-oxygenated blood directly to the heart, a pattern expected to be found also in the human fetus. We aimed to describe the human ductus venosus in a longitudinal sonographic study of two-dimensional imaging, colour flow mapping, and pulsed doppler velocimetry every 3-4 weeks during the second half of ...

Autonomic mechanisms in the ductus venosus of the lamb [PDF]
Morphological and pharmacological studies were performed in the ductus venosus from near-term fetal and neonatal (1 day of age) lambs. Light and electron microscopic analysis demonstrated a concentration of circularly oriented muscle fibers at the junction of the ductus with the portal sinus (the sphincter region).

Hemodynamic changes across the human ductus venosus: a comparison between clinical findings and mathematical calculations [PDF]
We investigated the hemodynamics of the ductus venosus in the human fetus by means of a combined approach based on Doppler and computational techniques. The aim of our study was to assess the blood velocity changes across the ductus venosus.

Absence of the ductus venosus: report of 10 new cases and review of the literature [PDF]
Objective: To assess the clinical significance of the absence of the ductus venosus. Design: A retrospective study with a review of the literature. Methods: The archives of our ultrasound laboratory and the English literature were searched for cases with

Pediatric Cardiology, 1991
A patent ductus venosus has been reported on only two previous occasions. Both involved adults who presented with recurrent bouts of encephalopathy. We present the case of an infant with complex congenital heart disease and multiple other abnormalities, in whom a patent ductus venosus was an incidental finding at necropsy.

AbstractAbsence of the ductus venosus is a rare vascular anomaly, but clinicians should be aware that it can be diagnosed antenatally and the prognosis is dependent on the type of associated malformation of the fetal vascular system. Antenatal detection of a single umbilical artery and unexplained cardiomegaly should prompt detailed examination of the ...
