Measuring secondary phases in duplex stainless steels
JOM, 2009The use of duplex stainless steels is limited by their susceptibility to the formation of dangerous intermetallic phases resulting in detrimental effects on impact toughness and corrosion resistance. This precipitation and the quantitative determinations of the phases have received considerable attention and different precipitation sequences (σ phase ...

Duplex Stainless Steel: Specification Requirements
Offshore Technology Conference, 1993ABSTRACT The use of duplex stainless steels Offshore has rapidly increased in recent years. At the same time the number of specifications for duplex stainless steel has also rapidly increased. This paper examines the requirements of these specifications, highlights conflicts and questions the need for certain tests.

Corrosion behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1997The corrosion of 2205 duplex stainless steel was compared with that of AISI type 316L stainless steel. The 2205 stainless steel is a potential orthodontic bracket material with low nickel content (4 to 6 wt%), whereas the 316L stainless steel (nickel content: 10 to 14 wt%) is a currently used bracket material.

Properties of vacuum sintered duplex stainless steels
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005This work presents the possibility of obtaining duplex stainless steels through powder metallurgy technology starting from austenitic X2CrNiMo17-12-2, martensitic X6Cr13 powders by controlled addition of alloying elements, such as Cr, Ni, Mo, Cu in the right quantity to obtain the chemical composition of the structure similar to biphasic one.

Pitting Corrosion of Duplex Stainless Steels
Corrosion, 1989The pitting corrosion of two duplex stainless steels was studied in chloride solutions. Phase compositions were determined by micro-analytical techniques and correlated with pitting behavior. The study showed that the pitting potential and the preferential pitting of the ferrite or austenite phase was dependent upon partitioning of the elements Cr, Mo,

Magnetostriction of duplex stainless steels
Materials Science and Technology, 1989AbstractTo identify suitable non-destructive examination techniques, the saturation magnetostriction of a number of ferritic–austenitic (duplex) stainless steel samples from various manufacturers has been measured using a dilatometric technique. The values were found to lie in two distinct ranges, which suggested that two types of material structure ...
