Duplex Stainless Steels for Tanks

CORROSION 2002, 2002
Abstract Due to its poor corrosion resistance, carbon steel is often replaced by stainless steel to build storage tanks for use in water treatment units, food, chemical and para chemical industries. For years, 316L has been widely used. Recently, duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steels have been selected due to improved corrosion ...

Fundamentals on Welding of Duplex / Super Duplex Stainless Steels

MECC 2023, 2023
Abstract This paper aims at providing general guidelines for welding duplex stainless steels. Whilst industry practices and literature were reviewed, the document is mainly based on the personal experience of the authors with duplex welding in Saudi Aramco and other projects they had participated during their welding engineering career ...

Welding duplex and super duplex stainless steels

Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, 1995
Duplex stainless steels have become important competitors to austenitic stainless steels in many applications and a great deal of attention has focused on the welding aspects. The introduction of modern grades with improved properties and a competitive price level have increased their use in the offshore, petrochemical and shipbuilding industries, for ...

Measuring secondary phases in duplex stainless steels

JOM, 2009
The use of duplex stainless steels is limited by their susceptibility to the formation of dangerous intermetallic phases resulting in detrimental effects on impact toughness and corrosion resistance. This precipitation and the quantitative determinations of the phases have received considerable attention and different precipitation sequences (σ phase ...

Corrosion behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1997
The corrosion of 2205 duplex stainless steel was compared with that of AISI type 316L stainless steel. The 2205 stainless steel is a potential orthodontic bracket material with low nickel content (4 to 6 wt%), whereas the 316L stainless steel (nickel content: 10 to 14 wt%) is a currently used bracket material.

Sintered Duplex Stainless Steels Corrosion Properties

Materials Science Forum, 2007
This work presents mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steels obtained through powder metallurgy starting from austenitic X2CrNiMo17-12-2 (AISI 316L), martensitic X6Cr13 (AISI 410L) powders by controlled addition of alloying elements in the proper quantity to obtain the chemical composition of the structure similar to ...

Duplex Stainless Steels

2008
Abstract This chapter provides information on the structure, design aspects, mechanical properties, forming, machining, and corrosion resistance characteristics of duplex stainless steels. The different types of corrosion covered are general corrosion, pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

Properties of vacuum sintered duplex stainless steels

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
This work presents the possibility of obtaining duplex stainless steels through powder metallurgy technology starting from austenitic X2CrNiMo17-12-2, martensitic X6Cr13 powders by controlled addition of alloying elements, such as Cr, Ni, Mo, Cu in the right quantity to obtain the chemical composition of the structure similar to biphasic one.

Super duplex stainless steels

Materials Science and Technology, 1992
AbstractThis paper presents an overview of duplex stainless steels (DSS) with particular emphasis on super DSS, i.e. steels containing sufficient amounts of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen to produce a pitting resistance equivalent greater than 40. Duplex stainless steels have an attractive combination of mechanical and corrosion properties and are ...
