There is a strong genetic predisposition to this disease, and it is clearly associated with other conditions such as alcoholism and epilepsy. The pathogenetic mechanisms are unknown. Primary manifestations are nodule formation and contraction of palmar fascia. Secondary manifestations include plantar fibromatosis and Peyronie's disease.
