When is the bait worth the risk? A mechanistic model of a compensatory ecological trap in seabirds
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Ecological traps occur when organisms preferentially select habitats that reduce fitness. In seabird–fishery systems, fishery‐derived trophic subsidies can increase foraging success, reinforce habitat preference and indirectly enhance reproductive output or recruitment,

Luminosity Distance and Extinction by Submicrometer-sized Grains
The distance to the stars is a fundamental parameter, which is determined via two primary methods—parallax and luminosity. While the parallax is a direct trigonometric method, the luminosity distance is usually influenced by interstellar extinction.

Long‐term demographic study reveals stabilizing mechanisms of salt marsh plants under climate change
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Despite its critical importance for biodiversity conservation, population persistence in multiple habitats under climate change has rarely been evaluated using long‐term demographic data.

Playing with fire: Wolf response to active wildfires, fire fronts and smoke
This study is one of the first, to our knowledge, to explicitly examine fine‐scale behavioural responses of a large carnivore to actively burning wildfires, fire fronts and smoke. The study found that wolves balanced the potential risks and benefits associated with wildfires, with implications for predator–prey dynamics in fire‐prone regions.

The Optical Extinction Law Depends on Magnetic Field Orientation: The RV–ψ Relation
For aspherical interstellar dust grains aligned with their short axes preferentially parallel to the local magnetic field, the amount of extinction per grain is larger when the magnetic field is along the line of sight and smaller when in the plane of ...

Archiving the History of Environmentalism: Insights from Academia and Practice
Abstract This Forum considers the current state of archiving for the environmental movement at local, national and international levels. It responds to a gap that researchers of environmentalism have long been aware of, but one that is poorly understood from the perspective of records management and collections development practice.

The emissivity of dust is known to vary greatly with radiative environment, density, grain chemistry, and geometry. Discrepancies between dust-mass surface densities derived from far-infrared (FIR) emission and visible extinction persist across and ...
