Ultra-Violet Mie Lidar Observations of Particulates Vertical Profiles in Macao during a Record High Pollution Episode

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Vertical profiles of particulates were measured in Macao by using a 355 nm Mie scattering lidar during a dust event. A high energy pulse laser was employed as the light source to detect the extinction coefficient in the atmosphere.

Connecting the dusty dots: Dust depletion and extinction of local interstellar clouds

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Investigating the chemical complexity of the interstellar medium (ISM) is key for understanding its physical nature and evolution. In this work, we studied parsec-scale interstellar dust clouds in the neutral ISM of the Milky Way using two different ...

Extinction Effect of Foliar Dust Retention on Urban Vegetation as Estimated by Atmospheric PM10 Concentration in Shenzhen, China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Foliar dust retention is a crucial source of uncertainty when monitoring the vegetation index using satellite remote sensing. As ground sampling conditions are limited by vegetation dust retention, separating the extinction effect of foliar dust ...

Starburst-like dust extinction in the small magellanic cloud [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The recent discovery that the ultraviolet (UV) dust extinction in starburst galaxies is similar to that found in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) motivated us to reinvestigate the UV extinction found in the SMC. We have been able to improve significantly

The Near-infrared Extinction Law at High and Low Galactic Latitudes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The Milky Way dust extinction curve in the near-infrared (NIR) follows a power-law form, but the value of the slope, β _NIR , is debated. Systematic variations in the slope of the Milky Way UV extinction curve are known to be correlated with variations ...

Characterization of the key membrane protein cytochrome Cyc2 from Ghiorsea bivora

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study reports the first detailed biochemical analysis of Cyc2TAG1_1, a cytochrome protein involved in microbial iron oxidation. We produced and purified this enzyme in E. coli, then measured its iron‐oxidizing efficiency, and characterized its electrical and structural properties.

Estimation of Dust Mass from Infrared Emission and Extinction of Supernova Remnants: G93.7−0.2, G109.1−1.0, G156.2+5.7, and G166.0+4.3

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Supernova remnants (SNRs) are major sites for both the production and destruction of interstellar dust, and quantifying their dust budget is essential for understanding the life cycle of cosmic dust.

Empirical Temperature- and Extinction-dependent Extinction Coefficients for the GALEX, Pan-STARRS 1, Gaia, SDSS, 2MASS, and WISE Passbands

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2022
We have obtained accurate dust reddening from the far-ultraviolet to the mid-infrared for up to 5 million stars by the star-pair algorithm based on LAMOST stellar parameters along with Galaxy Evolution Explorer, Pan-STARRS 1, Gaia, Sloan Digital Sky ...

An Anti‐Amyloidogenic Approach to Specifically Block Memory Consolidation in Mice for Therapeutic Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Functional amyloid conversion of the translation regulator CPEB3 is essential for long‐term memory persistence. This study demonstrates that targeting this molecular switch with the anti‐amyloidogenic peptide QBP1 selectively blocks CPEB3 fibrillation without disrupting phase separation.
