A new fault diagnostic technique in oil-filled electrical equipment; the dual of Duval triangle

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2016
Various techniques of fault diagnostics in oil-filled electrical equipment have been used in many years and are well documented in literature. The common techniques include; IEEE key gas, IEC 60599 gas ratios, Rodgers ratios, Doernenburg ratios and the Duval triangle. Among all the available techniques, Duval triangle remains the most accurate to date.

On-site OLTC monitoring using duval triangle and DWRM

2014 2nd International Conference on Technology, Informatics, Management, Engineering & Environment, 2014
Generally, the insulation degradation and contacts failure happened inside the On Load Tap Changer (OLTC). Besides, the OLTC performance can be dropped due to contact wear. Hence., the worn contact creates hotspots inside OLTC tank and affects the insulating oil. Due to this phenomenon, the insulating oil will degrade faster.

The duval triangle for load tap changers, non-mineral oils and low temperature faults in transformers

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 2008
New versions of the Duval triangle for equipment filled with mineral oil are proposed for load tap changers of the oil type, equipment filled with non- mineral oils, and for low-temperature faults where stray gassing of oils may interfere with diagnostics.

Condition assessment of OLTC using duval triangle and static winding resistance test

2012 IEEE International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference, 2012
On Load Tap Changer (OLTC) failure occurs is due to the insulation degradation and contacts failure inside it. Other than that, contacts wear influences the OLTC performances. The worn contacts will cause hotspots in the OLTC tank and cause the insulating oil to degrade faster.

Fault diagnostics in oil filled electrical equipment: Review of duval triangle and possibility of alternatives

2016 IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference (EIC), 2016
Fault diagnostics, identification and location in oil filled electrical equipment has been a challenging task which has been under critical focus of scientists in decades. One of the most successful methods of fault diagnostics and identification in such electrical equipment is the Duval triangle, which uses 3 fault gases; methane, ethylene and ...

Analysis of 132kV/33kV 15MVA power transformer dissolved gas using transport-X Kelman Kit through Duval's triangle and Roger's Ratio prediction

2018 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2018
In this article dissolved gas in 132kV/33kV 15MVA power transformer is analyzed using the Kelman Kit (Transport-X) through Duval's triangle method and Roger's Ratio method. Under the impact of electrical, thermal and environmental stresses, the equality of mineral insulation oil deteriorates in a gradual manner, electrical failures such as hot spots ...
