DDO 43: A Prototypical Dwarf Irregular Galaxy? [PDF]

open access: greenThe Astronomical Journal, 2005
We present sensitive and high resolution 21 cm observations of the dwarf irregular (dIm) galaxy DDO 43, in conjunction with optical broad and narrow band images in U, B, V, and Halpha. The observations are used to examine the relationship between its HI morphology and kinematics to past and present star formation.

A STAR FORMATION LAW FOR DWARF IRREGULAR GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: greenThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
The radial profiles of gas, stars, and far ultraviolet radiation in 20 dwarf Irregular galaxies are converted to stability parameters and scale heights for a test of the importance of two-dimensional (2D) instabilities in promoting star formation. A detailed model of this instability involving gaseous and stellar fluids with self-consistent thicknesses

Star clusters in the dwarf irregular galaxy Leo A [PDF]

open access: bronzeAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2019
Context. Leo A is an isolated gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxy of low stellar mass and metallicity residing at the outskirts of the Local Group. Ages of the stellar populations in Leo A range from ∼10 Myr to ∼10 Gyr. So far, only one star cluster has been discovered in this galaxy. Aims.

Properties of the Dwarf Irregular Galaxy DDO 169 [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astronomical Journal, 2006
This paper investigates the H i, optical, and dark matter properties of the dwarf irregular galaxy DDO 169. The galaxy shows signs of being tidally disrupted. Evidence of this can easily be seen in the galaxy's velocity field. We also show that DDO 169, which was thought to have a companion galaxy, does not.

The inclination of the dwarf irregular galaxy Holmberg II

open access: green, 2014
We provide constraints on the inclination angle of the H\,{\sc i} disk of the dwarf irregular galaxy Holmberg II (Ho II) from stability analysis of the outer gaseous disk. We point out that a mean inclination angle of 27 degrees and thus a flat circular velocity of ~60 km/s, is required to have a level of gravitational stability similar to that found ...

Dwarfs from the Dark (Energy Survey): a machine learning approach to classify dwarf galaxies from multi-band images

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics, 2021
Countless low-surface brightness objects - including spiral galaxies, dwarf galaxies, and noise patterns - have been detected in recent large surveys.
