Oxygen and Nitrogen in Isolated Dwarf Irregular Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2006
We present long slit optical spectroscopy of 67 HII regions in 21 dwarf irregular galaxies to investigate the enrichment of oxygen, nitrogen, neon, sulfur, and argon in low mass galaxies. Oxygen abundances are obtained via direct detection of the temperature sensitive emission lines for 25 HII regions; for the remainder of the sample, oxygen abundances

Duration and properties of the embedded phase of star formation in 37 nearby galaxies from PHANGS-JWST

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Light reprocessed by dust grains emitting in the infrared enables the study of the physics at play in dusty embedded regions, where ultraviolet and optical wavelengths are attenuated.

VLT Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in Low Surface Brightness Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yes, 2007
We present VLT/FORS2 spectroscopic observations of globular clusters (GCs) in five low surface brightness (LSB) dwarf galaxies: KK211 and KK221, which are both dwarf spheroidal satellites (dSph) of NGC 5128, dSph KK84 located close to the isolated S0 ...

The JWST Resolved Stellar Populations Early Release Science Program. VIII. The Spatially Resolved Star Formation History of WLM

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Radial stellar population gradients within dwarf galaxies provide a promising avenue for disentangling the drivers of galaxy evolution, including environment. Within the Local Volume, radial stellar age gradient slopes correlate with interaction history,

The Local Ultraviolet to Infrared Treasury. I. Survey Overview of the Broadband Imaging

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The Local Ultraviolet to Infrared Treasury (LUVIT) is a Hubble Space Telescope program that combines newly acquired data in the near-ultraviolet (NUV), optical, and near-infrared (NIR) with archival optical and NIR imaging to produce multiband ...

Discovery of Metal-poor and Distant Pre–Main Sequence Candidates in WLM with JWST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present the discovery of 12 metal-poor and distant pre–main sequence (PMS) candidates in the dwarf irregular galaxy Wolf–Lundmark–Melotte ∼968 kpc away, at a present-day metallicity of [Fe/H] ∼ –0.9.

The Local Ultraviolet to Infrared Treasury. II. Refining Star Formation Histories of 10 Metal-poor Dwarf Galaxies with Simultaneous UV-optical Two-CMD Fitting

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the star formation histories (SFHs) of 10 metal-poor (≲12% Z _⊙ ), star-forming dwarf galaxies from the Local Ultraviolet to Infrared Treasury survey.

Euclid: Early Release Observations – The star cluster systems of the Local Group dwarf galaxies IC 10 and NGC 6822★

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Star clusters are valuable indicators of galaxy evolution, offering insights into the buildup of stellar populations across cosmic time. Understanding the intrinsic star cluster populations of dwarf galaxies is particularly important given these systems’

The inclination of the dwarf irregular galaxy Holmberg II

open access: yes, 2014
We provide constraints on the inclination angle of the H\,{\sc i} disk of the dwarf irregular galaxy Holmberg II (Ho II) from stability analysis of the outer gaseous disk. We point out that a mean inclination angle of 27 degrees and thus a flat circular velocity of ~60 km/s, is required to have a level of gravitational stability similar to that found ...
