The Early Chemical Evolution of Dwarf Irregular Galaxies [PDF]
AbstractInvestigations have been performed to understand the age of dwarf irregular galaxies from the point of view of their presently low chemical abundances and the enhanced star-formation rate. While for a few objects, like e.g. I Zw 18, their assumed relative youth can be verified by models taking a double-starburst behavior into account, those ...

Plants can be exposed to ionising radiation not only in Space but also on Earth, due to specific technological applications or after nuclear disasters. The response of plants to ionising radiation depends on radiation quality/quantity and/or plant characteristics. In this paper, we analyse some growth traits, leaf anatomy, and ecophysiological features

First Stellar Abundances in the Dwarf Irregular Galaxy Sextans A [PDF]
We present the abundance analyses of three isolated A-type supergiant stars in the dwarf irregular galaxy Sextans A from high-resolution spectra the UVES spectrograph at the VLT. Detailed model atmosphere analyses have been used to determine the stellar atmospheric parameters and the elemental abundances of the stars.

Chemodynamical Simulations of Dwarf Galaxy Evolution
In this review I give a summary of the state of the art for what concerns the chemo‐dynamical numerical modelling of galaxies in general and of dwarf galaxies in particular. In particular, I focus my attention on (i) initial conditions, (ii) the equations to solve; (iii) the star formation process in galaxies, (iv) the initial mass function, (v) the ...

Identification of dusty massive stars in star-forming dwarf irregular galaxies in the Local Group with mid-IR photometry [PDF]
Increasing the statistics of spectroscopically confirmed evolved massive stars in the Local Group enables the investigation of the mass loss phenomena that occur in these stars in the late stages of their evolution.

Evidence for Mass-dependent Evolution of Transitional Dwarf Galaxies in the Virgo Cluster
The presence of transitional dwarf galaxies in cluster environments supports the hypothesis that infalling star-forming galaxies are transformed into quiescent early-type dwarf galaxies (ETdGs) through environmental effects.

Commodity risk assessment of Betula pendula and Betula pubescens plants from the UK
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Betula pendula and B.

Astronomical Signatures of Dark Matter
Several independent astronomical observations in different wavelength bands reveal the existence of much larger quantities of matter than what we would deduce from assuming a solar mass to light ratio. They are very high velocities of individual galaxies within clusters of galaxies, higher than expected rotation rates of stars in the outer regions of ...

The relation between atomic gas and star formation rate densities in faint dwarf irregular galaxies [PDF]
We use data for faint (M_B > -14.5) dwarf irregular galaxies drawn from the FIGGS survey to study the correlation between the atomic gas density (Sigma_gas,atomic) and star formation rate (Sigma_SFR) in the galaxies.

Spectral Energy Distributions for 258 Local Volume Galaxies
We present model spectral energy distribution (SED) fits to ultraviolet/optical/infrared observations for the 258 nearby galaxies in the Local Volume Legacy survey, a sample dominated by lower-luminosity dwarf irregular systems.
