Phylogenetic systematics of Juncaceae

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Premise Juncaceae has needed taxonomic revision for some time. Specifically, the genus Juncus s.l. is known to be paraphyletic because five small southern‐hemisphere genera have been shown repeatedly to be nested within it. In 2022, a new classification was proposed, based on phylogenies built from one nuclear and three plastid regions ...

Orbital variations and outbursts of the unusual variable star V1129 Centauri

open access: yes, 2017
The variable star V1129 Cen is classified in the GCVS as being of $\beta$ Lyr type. Unusual for such stars, it exhibits outbursts roughly once a year, lasting for $\sim$40 days. For this reason, a relationship to the dwarf novae has been suspected. Here,

Discovery and Initial Investigation of a New Low Surface Brightness Planetary Nebula Candidate at High Galactic Latitude

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 347, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Planetary nebulae represent a late evolutionary phase of low‐ to intermediate‐mass stars. In this article, we present the serendipitous discovery of a previously unknown, faint potential Galactic planetary nebula (PN) in the constellation Camelopardalis, identified during a survey‐inspection, aiming at the detection of dwarf companions of the ...

POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE SUPERHUMPS OF THE DWARF NOVA MN DRA

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2010
We present the result of O–C analysis of the dwarf nova MN Dra. It is based on the multi-site photometric observations that were made over 77 nights in August – November, 2009. The total exposure was 433 hours.

Binary orbits as the driver of γ-ray emission and mass ejection in classical novae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Classical novae are the most common astrophysical thermonuclear explosions, occurring on the surfaces of white dwarf stars accreting gas from companions in binary star systems.

On the Origin of Episodic Accretion in Dwarf Novae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1998
We show that dwarf nova disks in quiescence have rather low magnetic Reynolds number, of order 10^3. Numerical simulations of magnetized accretion disks suggest that under these conditions magnetohydrodynamic turbulence and the associated angular momentum transport is sharply reduced.

Hot white dwarfs and the UV delay in dwarf novae [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1999
We calculate the effect of illumination of dwarf nova accretion discs by radiation from a hot, central, white dwarf. We show that only for very hot white dwarfs (Teff ~ 40 000$ K) the inner region of quiescent dwarf nova discs are partially depleted so that the delay between the rise to outburst of the optical and UV fluxes would be increased as ...

NON-THERMAL EMISSION FROM CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES: IMPLICATIONS ON ASTROPARTICLE PHYSICS

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2013
We review the lines of evidence that some cataclysmic variables (CVs) are the sources of non-thermal radiation. It was really observed in some dwarf novae in outburst, a novalike CV in the high state, an intermediate polar, polars, and classical novae ...

The Accreting White Dwarfs in Cataclysmic Variables

open access: yesGalaxies, 2022
Accreting white dwarfs (WDs) in cataclysmic variables (CVs) provide crucial insights about the accretion of mass and angular momentum in all types of binaries, including accreting NSs and BHs.

Unexpected Superoutburst and Rebrightening of AL Comae Berenices in 2015

open access: yes, 2015
In 2015 March, the notable WZ Sge-type dwarf nova AL Com exhibited an unusual outburst with a recurrence time of ${\sim}$1.5 yr, which is the shortest interval of superoutbursts among WZ Sge-type dwarf novae.
