Lambda-Cold Dark Matter, Stellar Feedback, and the Galactic Halo Abundance Pattern [PDF]
(Abridged) The hierarchical formation scenario for the stellar halo requires the accretion and disruption of dwarf galaxies, yet low-metallicity halo stars are enriched in alpha-elements compared to similar, low-metallicity stars in dwarf spheroidal ...

Unbiased constraints on ultralight axion mass from dwarf spheroidal galaxies [PDF]
It has been suggested that the internal dynamics of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) can be used to test whether or not ultralight axions with $m_a\sim 10^{-22}\text{eV}$ are a preferred dark matter candidate.

Deep photometry of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy [PDF]
We report the results of deep CCD photometry of two overlapping fields in the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. We find (B-V)o,g = m0.69, indicating a mean [Fe/H] = −2.0. The width of the giant branch below the horizontal branch is somewhat wider than our observational errors permit, from which we infer there is a spread in metallicities amongst the Draco

Intermediate Mass Black Holes: Their Motion and Associated Energetics
There is a lot of current astrophysical evidence and interest in intermediate mass black holes (IMBH), ranging from a few hundred to several thousand solar masses. The active galaxy M82 and the globular cluster G1 in M31, for example, are known to host such objects.

We present results from wide-field imaging of the resolved stellar populations of the dwarf spheroidal galaxies Cassiopeia III (And XXXII) and Perseus I (And XXXIII), two satellites in the outer stellar halo of the Andromeda galaxy (M31).

The Mitchell Spectrograph: Studying Nearby Galaxies with the VIRUS Prototype
The Mitchell Spectrograph (a.k.a. VIRUS‐P) on the 2.7 m Harlan J. Smith telescope at McDonald Observatory is currently the largest field of view (FOV) integral field unit (IFU) spectrograph in the world (1.7′ × 1.7′). It was designed as a prototype for the highly replicable VIRUS spectrograph which consists of a mosaic of IFUs spread over a 16 ...

The evolution of the photometric properties of Local Group dwarf spheroidal galaxies
We investigate the present-day photometric properties of the dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the Local Group. From the analysis of their integrated colours, we consider a possible link between dwarf spheroidals and giant ellipticals.

J-factors for self-interacting dark matter in 20 dwarf spheroidal galaxies [PDF]
Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect dark matter (DM) searches in gamma rays.

Properties of the Photometric Components of Lenticular Galaxies
After almost one century since their definition, the origin of lenticular galaxies is still a matter of debate. Several formation processes have been proposed in order to explain the wide variety of their observational properties. These properties could indicate that the class of lenticulars is a family formed by galaxies with different formations and ...
