Advancing rare cancer research by MALDI mass spectrometry imaging: Applications, challenges, and future perspectives in sarcoma

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, Volume 24, Issue 12-13, June 2024.
Abstract MALDI mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI imaging) uniquely advances cancer research, by measuring spatial distribution of endogenous and exogenous molecules directly from tissue sections. These molecular maps provide valuable insights into basic and translational cancer research, including tumor biology, tumor microenvironment, biomarker ...

Are Nuclear Star Clusters the Precursors of Massive Black Holes?

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We present new upper limits for black hole masses in extremely late type spiral galaxies. We confirm that this class of galaxies has black holes with masses less than 106M⊙, if any. We also derive new upper limits for nuclear star cluster masses in massive galaxies with previously determined black hole masses.

Updated Bounds on Axion‐Like Particle Dark Matter with the Optical MUSE‐Faint Survey

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, Volume 536, Issue 1, January 2024.
This study presents bounds on the axion‐like particle (ALP) to two‐photon coupling in the mass range $2.65‐5.27$ eV. The signal from ALP decay are sought in the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) observations of five dwarf spheroidal galaxies, under the assumption that ALPs make up the whole dark matter.

Pulsar‐Driven Jets in Supernovae, Gamma‐Ray Bursts, and the Universe

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
The bipolarity of Supernova 1987A can be understood through its very early light curve from the CTIO 0.4 m telescope and IUE FES and following speckle observations of the “Mystery Spot”. These indicate a beam/jet of light/particles, with initial collimation factors >104 and velocities >0.95 c, involving up to 10−5 M⊙ interacting with circumstellar ...

Radio-Frequency Searches for Dark Matter in Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yesGalaxies, 2019
Dwarf spheroidal galaxies have long been discussed as optimal targets for indirect dark matter searches. However, the majority of such studies have been conducted with gamma-ray instruments.

Assessment of Dark Matter Models Using Dark Matter Correlations across Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies

open access: yesUniverse, 2022
The predicted size of dark matter substructures in kilo-parsec scales is model-dependent. Therefore, if the correlations between dark matter mass densities as a function of the distances between them are measured via observations, we can scrutinize dark ...

Deep photometry of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1986
We report the results of deep CCD photometry of two overlapping fields in the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. We find (B-V)o,g = m0.69, indicating a mean [Fe/H] = −2.0. The width of the giant branch below the horizontal branch is somewhat wider than our observational errors permit, from which we infer there is a spread in metallicities amongst the Draco

Implications and Applications of Kinematic Galaxy Scaling Relations

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Galaxy scaling relations, which describe a connection between ostensibly unrelated physical characteristics, testify to an underlying order in galaxy formation that requires understanding. I review the development of a scaling relation that (1) unites the well‐known fundamental plane (FP) relation of giant elliptical galaxies and Tully‐Fisher (TF ...

Dwarf spheroidal galaxy kinematics and spiral galaxy scaling laws [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2011

Exploring the Structures and Substructures of the Andromeda Satellite Dwarf Galaxies Cassiopeia III, Perseus I, and Lacerta I

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present results from wide-field imaging of the resolved stellar populations of the dwarf spheroidal galaxies Cassiopeia III (And XXXII) and Perseus I (And XXXIII), two satellites in the outer stellar halo of the Andromeda galaxy (M31).
