To an externally excited pendulum a dynamic absorber, which can move in transverse or longitudinal direction, is added. The quenching efficiency of two different systems is studied and compared. The absorber can be very efficient for slightly damped systems if it is correctly tuned. This is especially true when only small absorber mass can be adopted.

Research of the dynamics of a magnetic fluid dynamic absorber

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2002
A new type of shock absorber using a magnetic fluid drop with the permanent magnet inside as a working element is investigated in this paper. Movement of the working element inside the body of the absorber under the influence of external oscillatory inertia forces leads to a viscous dissipation of the oscillating system energy.
