Evaluation of Dynamic Postural Balance in Pediatric Familial Mediterranean Fever Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Aim:Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autoinflammatory and chronic disorder. Colchicine has been prescribed to treat FMF since 1972. Balance is a complex function of the neuromuscular system.

Evaluation of Sit-to-Stand Movement in Older Adults with Locomotive Syndrome Using the Nintendo Wii Balance Board

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Standing up from a chair is a mechanically demanding daily motion, and its biomechanics represent motor performance. In older adults with locomotive syndrome (LS), sit-to-stand (STS) movement with adequate postural control is essential to prevent falls ...

Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Galvanic vestibular stimulation with low intensity improves dynamic balance

open access: yesTranslational Neuroscience, 2021
Dynamic balance is associated with fall risk. The aim of this study is to explore the effects of galvanic vestibular stimulation with very low intensity direct current (dcGVS) on dynamic balance.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Design of a dynamic balance assessment system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of this work was to design, build and test a system that could perturb a test subject standing upon it in order to assess their ability to react to these changes.

Dynamic balance training with sensory electrical stimulation in chronic stroke patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A case study investigating the impact of sensory electrical stimulation during perturbed stance in one chronic stroke patient is presented. A special apparatus called the BalanceTrainer was used.

Neuromotor Incoordination Predictive of ADHD

open access: yesPediatric Neurology Briefs, 2003
Quantitative and qualitative motor performance on the Maastricht Motor test was evaluated in 401 children ages 5 to 6 years (232 males, 169 females) who were tested 18 months later for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and ODD/CD, in a ...

Creating Balance in Dynamic Competitions [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
We consider incentives for organizing competitions in multiple rounds, focusing on situations where there is heterogeneity among the contestants ex ante, which discourages effort in a single contest. Heterogeneity evolves across rounds depending upon the outcomes of previous rounds. We present conditions under which balance in such a competition can be

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
