BRAKING AND REVERSING SHIP DYNAMICS

Naval Engineers Journal, 1970
ABSTRACTTHIS PAPER PRESENTS the results of a ship braking and reversing dynamics study for a COGAG, single screw, ship with a fixed pitch propeller, a reversing reduction gear, and a water brake for dynamic braking of the propeller. A digital computer simulation was used to calculate the major ship and propulsion plant parameters for various propulsion

Capture Dynamics of Coaxial Magnetic Brakes

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2008
In a coaxial magnetic brake, the changing field produced by movement of a solenoidal magnet induces a current in the wall of a conductive tube. The interaction of the field and current leads to a repulsive force that slows the motion of the magnet. We have tested the performance of this type of brake by firing a projectile carrying a permanent magnet ...

Dynamic Brake Balance via the Computer

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1966
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The evaluation of commercial vehicle brake system balance is a complex analytical task. Tractor-trailer combinations frequently include different brake designs on different axles, which have widely varying characteristics.

Dynamics and limits of electrical braking

2013 8th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO), 2013
Conversion between electrical energy and mechanical energy is done by electrical machines. It is possible to use most of the electrical machines as motor or generator and also it is easy to switch between these states. This phenomenon makes them preferable in any dynamic application.

D.C. dynamic braking of saturistor motor

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1970
The use of rotor-circuit saturistors during d.c. dynamic braking of a wound-rotor induction motor was found to result in faster braking. With an injected direct current electromagnetically equivalent to the rated stator current, the effect of saturistors was to reduce the stopping time from full-voltage no-load operation by 40%. Deceleration time for a

Dynamics of braking vehicles: from Coulomb friction to anti-lock braking systems

European Journal of Physics, 2009
The dynamics of braking of wheeled vehicles is studied using the Coulomb approximation for the friction between road and wheels. The dependence of the stopping distance on the mass of the vehicle, on the number of its wheels and on the intensity of the braking torque is established.

Brake Rig Influence on Vehicle Dynamics

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, 2010
A mathematical model of conventional freight car motion with constant speed is developed taking the work of brake equipment into account. The influence of freight car conventional brake rig on the vehicle dynamics at motion is studied. The results obtained at the computer simulation have shown that in some cases brake equipment can worsen the car ...

Dynamic Modeling of Brake Friction Coefficients

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2000
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Friction behavior is one of the most critical factors in brake system design and performance. For up-front design and system modeling it is desirable to be able to describe a lining's frictional behavior as a function of the local conditions, such as contact pressure, temperature and sliding speed.

A Review of Braking Performance and Dynamic Performance of Brake Discs

Journal of Tribology
Abstract As a critical safety component in railway braking systems, brake discs necessitate comprehensive evaluation through material–structural analysis and multiphysics interactions. This review systematically examines three core aspects: (1) material advancements in ferrous metals, composites, ceramics, and surface coating ...
