Static behaviour of functionally graded sandwich beams using a quasi-3D theory

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents static behaviour of functionally graded (FG) sandwich beams by using a quasi-3D theory, which includes both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects. Various symmetric and non-symmetric sandwich beams with FG material in the

Dynamics of deforming drops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Liquid drops play a dominant role in numerous industrial applications, such as spray coating, spray painting, inkjet printing, lithography processes, and spraying/sprinkling in agriculture or gardening. In all of these examples, the generation, flight, impact, and spreading of drops are separate stages of the corresponding industrial processes, which ...

Soliton dynamics in deformable nonlinear lattices [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2006
We describe wave propagation and soliton localization in photonic lattices which are induced in a nonlinear medium by an optical interference pattern, taking into account the inherent lattice deformations at the soliton location. We obtain exact analytical solutions and identify the key factors defining soliton mobility, including the effects of gap ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Vibration and buckling of cross-ply composite beams using refined shear deformation theory

open access: yes, 2012
Vibration and buckling analysis of cross-ply composite beams using refined shear deformation theory is presented. The theory accounts for the parabolical variation of shear strains through the depth of beam.

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

A physically-based constitutive model considering mixed dynamic recrystallization for a near-α titanium alloy during hot deformation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The mixed dynamic recrystallization of titanium alloys during hot deformation is rarely described in the existing microstructure evolution models and constitutive models.
