Study on the Dynamic Deformation Characteristics of Artificial Structural Loess
Due to the difficulties in sampling, high sensitivity to humidity, and inconvenience in storage, undisturbed loess is prone to changes in its original structure.

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Correlation of microseismic and chemical properties of brittle deformation in Locharbriggs sandstone [PDF]
The time-dependent properties of ceramic materials such as rocks depend both on preexisting cracks and chemical properties acting at their tips. We have examined the direct effect of chemical processes on the growth of a crack population by carrying out ...

Nanostructures as indicator for deformation dynamics
We aim to determine the feedback between fault dynamics and fault gouge structures by examining gouge structures that formed during rupture and slip of initially intact granite under upper crustal conditions. Experiments were conducted under quasi-static (3·10-5 mm/s), weakly dynamic (0.27 mm/s) and fully dynamic (≫1.5 mm/s ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...
