Study on the influence of impact tendency on dynamic fracture behavior of coal

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2023
In order to investigate the influence of impact tendency on dynamic fracture characteristics of coal, cyclic loading and unloading tests with variable upper limit and dynamic and static type I dynamic fracture tests are carried out on three types of coal.

Measurement of dynamic fracture toughness by double torsion testing

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2018
A dynamic double torsion testing machine and measurement system were developed on the basis of the split Hopkinson pressure bar test and the theoretical one-dimensional wave propagation in the input and output bars, and their validity was confirmed by ...

Experimental study on impact fracture of cantilever beam-column specimen with prefabricated crack

open access: yes矿业科学学报, 2018
The impact fracture mechanics of the cantilever beam-column specimens with different inclination angles(0°,30°,60°) prefabricated cracks subjected to hammer impact loading were studied by using digital dynamic caustic test system. The results show that ...

FDEM Modelling of Rock Fracture Process during Three-Point Bending Test under Quasistatic and Dynamic Loading Conditions

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2021
A hybrid finite-discrete element method (FDEM) is proposed to model rock fracture initiation and propagation during a three-point bending test under quasistatic and dynamic loading conditions.

Modeling Impact-induced Failure of Polysilicon MEMS: A Multi-scale Approach

open access: yesSensors, 2009
Failure of packaged polysilicon micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) subjected to impacts involves phenomena occurring at several length-scales. In this paper we present a multi-scale finite element approach to properly allow for: (i) the propagation ...

Conformal dynamics of precursors to fracture [PDF]

open access: yesEurophysics Letters (EPL), 2003
An exact integro-differential equation for the conformal map from the unit circle to the boundary of an evolving cavity in a stressed 2-dimensional solid is derived. This equation provides an accurate description of the dynamics of precursors to fracture when surface diffusion is important.

The Loading Rate Effect on the Fracture Toughness of Marble Using Semicircular Bend Specimens

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
A series of dynamic fracture experiments on semicircular bend (SCB) marble specimens were conducted to characterize the loading rate effect using the INSTRON testing machine and the modified SHPB testing system.

Dynamics of fractures in quenched disordered media [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1998
We introduce a model for fractures in quenched disordered media. This model has a deterministic extremal dynamics, driven by the energy function of a network of springs (Born Hamiltonian). The breakdown is the result of the cooperation between the external field and the quenched disorder.
