Percutaneous dynamic hip screw

Injury, 2006
We present the results of a technique of dynamic hip screw insertion through a very small incision, typically 2-2.5 cm. The technique is performed using a standard dynamic hip screw set and requires no additional equipment. We compared the results to those of an age and sex-matched group who had undergone the operation through a traditional approach ...

Hip Arthrodesis With the Dynamic Hip Screw

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 2002
The authors report a series of 10 patients (4 male, 6 female) with end-stage hip degeneration who underwent unilateral hip arthrodesis at an average age of 19 years (range 14-35). Surgery was performed with the patient in the supine position through a Watson-Jones approach and fixation was stabilized with the AO Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS).

Intrapelvic Protrusion of a Dynamic Hip Screw

HIP International, 2006
The sliding hip screw, sometimes called the dynamic hip screw (DHS) has been a successful method for treating hip fractures. Nevertheless, mechanical complications of this system have been reported from time to time. They are mainly the result of instability of the fracture, bone quality and technical errors occurring during surgery ...

Origami in dynamic hip screw surgery

Injury, 2004
The insertion of a dynamic hip screw requires assessment of the native angle of the femoral neck. The two commonly used angles of DHS insertion are 135 and 150 degrees. We present a simple way of judging whether a 135 or 150 degrees angle plate is more suitable in the preoperative plan by using one or two sheets of A4 or letter paper, respectively.

Rare mode of dynamic hip screw failure

Hip International, 2008
The sliding hip screw (SHS) has been the orthopaedic surgeon's implant of choice for repairing intertrochanteric femur fractures for nearly 30 years. Breakage of SHS is very rare and is seen mainly at the plate screw junction. Here we report a rare case of SHS failure; in this case the patient was asymptomatic after apparently uneventful fracture ...

Dynamic hip screws that fail

Injury, 1991
A series of 87 trochanteric fractures of the femur treated by dynamic hip screw, was reviewed. The relationship between the position of the fracture fragments and the position of the hip screw in the femoral head was investigated. Hip screws inserted into some parts of the femoral head were more likely to cut out than others.
