A Biomechanical Study Comparing Helical Blade with Screw Design for Sliding Hip Fixations of Unstable Intertrochanteric Fractures

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Dynamic hip screw (DHS) is a well-established conventional implant for treating intertrochanteric fracture. However, revision surgery sometimes still occurs due to the cutting out of implants.

Fixation principles in metaphyseal bone—a patent based review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Osteoporotic changes start in cancellous bone due to the underlying pathophysiology. Consequently, the metaphyses are at a higher risk of "osteoporotic” fracture than the diaphysis. Furthermore, implant purchase to fix these fractures is also affected by

Strength analyses of screws for femoral neck fractures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This article represents a multidisciplinary approach to biomechanics (engineering + medicine) in the field of "collum femoris" fractures. One possible treatment method for femoral neck fractures, especially for young people, is the application of ...

The prognostic value of tip-to-apex distance (TAD index) in intertrochanteric fractures fixed by dynamic hip screw

open access: yesOrthopedic Reviews, 2012
Intertrochanteric fractures (ITFs) are the most common type of fractures requiring surgical intervention. They also have the highest surgical mortality among orthopedic operations.

Key Decision‐Making in Post‐Failed Internal Fixation of Intertrochanteric Fractures Hip Arthroplasty: A Multicenter Retrospective Study on Fracture Healing's Impact on Femoral Component Selection

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 470-481, February 2025.
Binary logistic regression revealed that a medial buttress significantly influenced long‐stem choice in hip surgery (p < 0.0001, OR = 10.402). Decision trees indicated standard stems for healed fractures or with medial buttress, and long stems for unhealed fractures without it, reducing periprosthetic fracture risk.

A new technique for insertion of barrel plate over dy-namic hip/compression lag screw: a case report

open access: yesChinese Journal of Traumatology, 2012
【Abstract】Dynamic hip/compression screw (DHS/ DCS) is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in orthopaedic practice. Sliding barrel plate over the DHS/DCS lag screw is one of the very crucial and at times uncomfor-table and time consuming steps

Comparing Intramedullary Nails Versus Dynamic Hip Screws in the Treatment of Intertrochanteric Hip Fractures on Post-operative Rehabilitation Outcomes:A Systematic Review Protocol

open access: yesGeriatric Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation, 2022
Background: Intertrochanteric hip fractures are treated by fixation with either an intramedullary (IM) Nail or Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS). It is unknown whether one surgery type has better post-operative rehabilitative outcomes for the hip fracture ...

3066 consecutive Gamma Nails. 12 years experience at a single centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Fixation of trochanteric hip fractures using the Gamma Nail has been performed since 1988 and is today well established and wide-spread. However, a number of reports have raised serious concerns about the implant's complication rate.

Biomechanical Analysis and Solution Suggestions of Screw Replacement Scenarios in Femoral Neck Fracture Surgeries: Finite Element Method

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 614-623, February 2025.
Despite several surgical options, there has yet to be a consensus on the best treatment for femoral neck fracture (FNF) due to higher complication rates compared to other bone fractures. This study aims to examine the possible consequences and solution suggestions of changing screws during surgery for various reasons in FNF surgical treatment from a ...
