Finite element comparative analysis of three different internal fixation methods in the treatment of Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2022
Background Comparison of 4 cannulated lag screws (3 inverted triangular cannulated screws + anti-rotating screws;4 CLS), dynamic hip screws + derotational screws (DHS + DS), and femoral neck fixation system (FNS) in the treatment of Biomechanical ...

Key Decision‐Making in Post‐Failed Internal Fixation of Intertrochanteric Fractures Hip Arthroplasty: A Multicenter Retrospective Study on Fracture Healing's Impact on Femoral Component Selection

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 470-481, February 2025.
Binary logistic regression revealed that a medial buttress significantly influenced long‐stem choice in hip surgery (p < 0.0001, OR = 10.402). Decision trees indicated standard stems for healed fractures or with medial buttress, and long stems for unhealed fractures without it, reducing periprosthetic fracture risk.

Reliability of predictors for screw cutout in intertrochanteric hip fractures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Following internal fixation of intertrochanteric hip fractures, tip apex distance, fracture classification, position of the screw in the femoral head, and fracture reduction are known predictors for screw cutout, but the reliability of these ...

Biomechanical Analysis and Solution Suggestions of Screw Replacement Scenarios in Femoral Neck Fracture Surgeries: Finite Element Method

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 614-623, February 2025.
Despite several surgical options, there has yet to be a consensus on the best treatment for femoral neck fracture (FNF) due to higher complication rates compared to other bone fractures. This study aims to examine the possible consequences and solution suggestions of changing screws during surgery for various reasons in FNF surgical treatment from a ...

Torsional stability of fixation methods in basicervical femoral neck fractures: a biomechanical study

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background Basicervical femoral neck fracture is a rare proximal femur fracture with a high implant failure rate. Biomechanical comparisons between cephalomedullary nails (CMNs) and dynamic hip screws (DHSs) under torsion loading are lacking.

Poor outcomes for osteoporotic patients undergoing conversion total hip arthroplasty following prior failed dynamic hip screw fixation: a nationwide retrospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2019
Objectives This study was performed to compare the long-term clinical and radiological outcomes of conversion total hip arthroplasty (CTHA) following prior failed InterTan nail (IT) fixation or dynamic hip screw (DHS) fixation in Asian patients with ...

Comparison of PFN (Proximal femoral nail) and DHS (Dynamic hip screw) in treatment of Intertrochanteric femur fractures

open access: yesSurgical Update: International Journal of Surgery and Orthopedics, 2018
Introduction: Intertrochanteric femur fractures are common in the elderly people. The frequency of these fractures has increased primarily due to the increasing life span and more sedentary life style brought on by urbanization. The incidence of Intertrochanteric femur fractures is more in the female population compared to the male due to osteoporosis.

Waiting for surgery after hip fracture—Health and/or economic risk?

open access: yesThe International Journal of Health Planning and Management, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 57-85, January 2025.
Abstract Objectives Waiting for surgery is a disconcerting experience. It can have a negative impact on patients' outcomes and length of stay (LOS) as driver for treatment costs. Process‐optimisation may be a strategy to improve quality and cost‐efficacy.
