Mass transfer and dynamic liquid—liquid interfacial tension. III. Theory of nonequilibrium pressure coefficient of interfacial tension

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1985
Abstract Using a molecular-kinetic method of derivation, we have found the general equations that describe the pressure coefficient of interfacial tensions (IFT) in nonequilibrium conditions. These equations show the factors which govern the process of change of interfacial tension with pressure in multicomponent nonequilibrium systems.

Dynamic interfacial tension of crude oil/alkali/surfactant systems

Colloids and Surfaces, 1992
Abstract An experimental study was conducted to examine the dynamic interfacial tension in crude oil/alkali/surfactant systems over a wide range of parameters. The system examined contained David Lloydminster crude oil, sodium carbonate (a buffered alkali) and one of two synthetic surfactants with high salt tolerance (Neodol 25-3S or Triton X-100 ...

Dynamic Interfacial Tension Measurements by a Capillary Pressure Method

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1995
Abstract: A new technique to measure dynamic interfacial tension is presented which represents one of the possible applications of the capillary pressure methods. These methods are based on the direct measurement of the capillary pressure to obtain surface or interfacial tension data by the application of the Laplace equation.

The measurement of dynamic interfacial tension by photo-micropendography

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1988
Abstract A novel experimental technique called photo-micropendography has been developed for the precise and accurate measurement of the dynamic interfacial tension of finite reactive systems. Photo-micropendography is an integrated experimental/data analysis system which is essentially a modification of the classical pendant drop apparatus, but ...

Effects of viscosity on dynamic interfacial tension.

2009
In this study, we have investigated the interfacial tension (IFT)-lowering potential of a range of caustic solutions which were contacted with dilute solution of linoleic acid in light paraffin oil. Two polymers, namely, polyvinyl alcohol and polyacrylamide were added to the caustic solution in order to increase bulk phase viscosity. The dynamic IFT of

Octane/Water Interfacial Tension Calculation by Molecular Dynamics Simulation

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1996
The authors have made an estimation of the interfacial tension of octane/water system based on the molecular dynamics simulations. The interfacial energy is the surface excess of internal energy, while the interfacial tension is the surface excess of Helmholtz free energy whose evaluation is generally difficult.

A new instrument for the measurement of liquid-liquid interfacial tension and the dynamics of interfacial tension reduction

Measurement Science and Technology, 1992
An instrument has been developed to measure liquid-liquid interfacial tension based upon the drop volume method. The instrument accurately measures the time elapsed for a known number of liquid droplets, formed under a constant flow rate, to detach from a submerged capillary orifice. The size of the droplet is directly proportional to the liquid-liquid

Influence of dynamic interfacial tension on droplet formation during membrane emulsification

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2004
Membrane emulsification is a promising and relatively new technique for producing emulsions. The purpose of this study was to better understand the influence of interfacial tension on droplet formation during membrane emulsification. Droplet formation experiments were carried out with a microengineered membrane; the droplet diameter and droplet ...

Theory on the Growing Drop Technique for Measuring Dynamic Interfacial Tensions

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1995
Abstract The dynamic surface tension of dilatated liquid/liquid interfaces has been measured with the growing drop technique by several investigators. The experiments are reinterpreted with our theory based on diffusion-controlled adsorption kinetics with surface dilatation, which accounts for convection due to surface expansion.

Use of electrowetting to measure dynamic interfacial tensions of a microdrop

Lab on a Chip, 2012
The adsorption of surface active species to liquid-liquid and to solid-liquid interfaces can have dramatic effects in microfluidics. In this paper we show how electrowetting on dielectric can be used to monitor a dynamic liquid-liquid interfacial tension (IFT) with a time resolution of O(1 s) using amplitude modulation of the AC voltage.
