Dynamic Probe Measurements in the Ionosphere [PDF]
Preliminary rather successful attempts to determine the ionization in the E-layer by means of a probe technique are described. The probe current showed an extremely rapid rise between 90 and 105 km altitude. The result indicates a positive-ion density about ten times larger than the electron density.

The Effects of Solar Wind Dynamic Pressure on the Structure of the Topside Ionosphere of Mars
We use Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN observations of the upstream solar wind, and Mars Express observations of ionospheric electron densities and magnetic fields, to study how the topside ionosphere (>320 km) of Mars is affected by variations in

Target Altitude Estimation in Over-the-Horizon Radar
Doppler signatures of local multipath signals provide useful information for target altitude estimation in over-the-horizon radar surveillance. In this paper, we develop a method to improve the resolution of these multipath Doppler signatures and enable ...

Simulation of Transient Topside Layer in the Martian Ionosphere
Many Mars missions, e.g., Mariner, Viking, Mars Global Surveyor (MGS), Mars Express (MEX), and Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN), have been launched to study the Martian atmosphere.

A new scenario applying traffic flow analogy to poleward expansion of auroras [PDF]
Transient westward electric fields from the magnetosphere generate equatorward plasma drifts of the order of kilometers per second in the auroral ionosphere.

Doppler shifts of HF radio waves along oblique propagation paths in the ionosphere
Urgency. The ionosphere is widely used as a channel for radar, radioastronomy, radio navigation, communication links, and space-based sounding the Earth.

Complex network description of the ionosphere [PDF]
Complex networks have emerged as an essential approach of geoscience to generate novel insights into the nature of geophysical systems. To investigate the dynamic processes in the ionosphere, a directed complex network is constructed, based on a ...

Large-scale current systems in the ionosphere and the magnetosphere are intimately controlled by the solar wind-magnetosphere interaction and the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling.

Evidence of meso-scale structure in the high-latitude thermosphere [PDF]
There is a widely held assumption that the thermospheric neutral gas is slow to respond to magnetospheric forcing owing to its large inertia and therefore, may be treated as a steady state background medium for the more dynamic ionosphere.
