Current state of knowledge on Takotsubo Syndrome: a Position Statement from the Taskforce on Takotsubo Syndrome of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Takotsubo syndrome is an acute reversible heart failure syndrome that is increasingly recognized in modern cardiology practice. This Position Statement from the European Society of Cardiology Heart Failure Association provides a comprehensive review of ...

Dynamic Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction in a Patient with Pheochromocytoma.

open access: yesJapanese Heart Journal, 1999
Symmetric left ventricular hypertrophy or asymmetric septal hypertrophy associated with pheochromocytoma simulating hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy have been rarely reported. In this report, we present a case with pheochromocytoma that had dynamic left ventricular outflow tract obstruction without asymmetric septal hypertrophy.

Non‐canonical PKG1 regulation in cardiovascular health and disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
It is well established that the cyclic GMP‐dependent protein kinase I (PKG1) is canonically activated by cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), enabling its regulation of vascular tone, cardiac function and smooth muscle homeostasis. However, diverse non‐canonical stimuli of PKG1 have also been identified.

Echocardiographic evaluation of velocity ratio, velocity time integral ratio, and pulmonary valve area in dogs with pulmonary valve stenosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BackgroundVelocity ratio, velocity time integral (VTI) ratio, and pulmonary valve area indexed to body surface area (iPVA) are methods of assessment of pulmonary valve stenosis (PS) severity that are less dependent on blood flow. Studies evaluating these

Prevalence of myocardial hypertrophy in a population of asymptomatic Swedish Maine coon cats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background Maine coon cats have a familial disposition for developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) with evidence of an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance 1. The current mode to diagnose HCM is by use of echocardiography.

3D transparent technology displays the developmental patterns of ductus arteriosus morphology in chicken embryos before and after birth

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
At the eighth week of human embryonic development, 3D transparent imaging enables clear visualization of the outflow tract's morphological features, revealing its anatomical components in detail. Abstract The ductus arteriosus (DA) is a critical fetal vascular structure that shunts blood from the pulmonary artery to the aorta, bypassing the non ...

Dynamic thromboembolic left ventricular outflow tract obstruction after aggressive procoagulant treatment in hemorrhagic shock: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2021
Background In cases of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), the systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve apparatus results in an obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT), which is known as the SAM [systolic anterior motion]

Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy: alcohol septal ablation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Alcohol septal ablation (ASA) was introduced in 1994 as an alternative to septal myectomy for patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and symptoms refractory to medical therapy.

Cardiac magnetic resonance findings predict increased resource utilization in elective coronary artery bypass grafting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Morbidity following CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting) is difficult to predict and leads to increased healthcare costs. We hypothesized that pre-operative CMR (cardiac magnetic resonance) findings would predict resource utilization in elective CABG ...

In silico modelling of multi‐electrode arrays for enhancing cardiac drug testing on hiPSC‐CM heterogeneous tissues

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Schematic overview of the experimental and computational framework for investigating hiPSC‐CM electrophysiology with MEA systems. The MEA‐based model integrates experimental data with phenotype‐specific ionic models and tissue‐level heterogeneity.
