Cloud-Based Dynamic Line Rating

2020
Introduction of the Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) concept has an important role in implementing smart grids in the power utility's transmission network. DLR assumes real-time control of the overhead transmission line, based on the continuous evaluation of the actual thermal and other operating conditions, and further estimation of the maximum transmission ...

Dynamic Line Rating of Wind Farm Integration Transmission Lines

2017 IEEE 7th Annual International Conference on CYBER Technology in Automation, Control, and Intelligent Systems (CYBER), 2017
Because of the limited access to information such as transmission line state and environmental parameters along existing transmission lines, power companies tend to exert conservative and static constrains on line current-carrying capacity. Conservative static line rating setting prevents transmission capacity enhancement, reducing line utilization ...

Dynamic line rating forecastability for conservative day-ahead line rating values

IECON 2015 - 41st Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2015
Dynamic line ratings (DLR) can increase power transmission capacity of power lines. The use of DLR becomes effective, if DLR is possible to be known beforehand, e.g., a dayahead for the different hours of the following day. Power line ampacity, and thus DLR, is dependent on weather conditions, mainly wind and temperature-in this order of significance ...

Different Approaches of Dynamic Line Rating Calculations

2019 7th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE), 2019
Nowadays in the electricity system several challenges have been appeared that system operators have to cope with. One of the major challenges is to increase the transmission capacity of the overhead lines (OHL), while maintaining the safety and security level of the network. Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) by monitoring the real-time environmental parameters

Dynamic current rating of overhead lines

Electric Power Systems Research, 1989
Abstract The radial temperatures in three types of overhead line conductor are computed for various wind velocities, wind angles and solar insolation. It is seen that for the higher wind speeds and lower ambient temperatures significant radial temperature gradients exist, especially for the larger conductors.

Avoiding blackouts with dynamic thermal line rating

2015 Modern Electric Power Systems (MEPS), 2015
This paper presents the possibility of use of Dynamic Thermal Line Rating for the electrical system protection and stability improvement. One analyzing the recent decade blackout occurrences finds their common features and development causes and presents the applicable solution for avoiding them in the future as the anti-blackout protection.

Dynamic line rating in the operating environment

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1990
The authors present power line data and dynamic line rating statistics obtained during a one-year study in new York State. Conclusions from the study apply specifically to the Porter/Rotterdam line Hash 30. Dynamic line ratings, defined as the minimum dynamic rating for the power line, were 20% lower than the average or single-station ratings.

Fuzzy Dynamic Thermal Rating of Transmission Lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2012
Dynamic thermal rating (DTR) of transmission system facilities is a way to maximally realize the equipment capacities while not threatening their health. With regards to transmission lines, the allowable current of conductors is forecasted based on the environmental situations expected in some forthcoming time periods.

Towards to smart grid: Dynamic line rating

2018 6th International Istanbul Smart Grids and Cities Congress and Fair (ICSG), 2018
Unlike traditional grid, the smart grid increases the efficient use of available energy with dynamic pricing, real-time control, and self-healing. It is an innovative modern grid structure that enables bi-directional communication of instantaneous data from all parts of the energy generation, transmission, distribution, and end-users.

Field experiences with dynamic line rating protection

10th IET International Conference on Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2010). Managing the Change, 2010
This paper describes how dynamic line rating (DLR) is applied for load management and protection in two applications to enable a larger penetration of wind generation. One application is installed by Central Networks on a 132 kV double-circuit line between Skegness and Boston (North East of England). Another application of the DLR approach is installed
