Impact of dynamic line rating on redispatch
2019 16th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM), 2019This paper analyzes the impact of dynamic line rating (DLR) on both redispatch amounts and costs in Germany for a best and a worst case redispatch scenario in 2020. The basic methodology is divided into three steps: First, hourly weather dependent maximal ampacities of overhead lines are derived in order to analyze the impact of DLR. Uncertainty issues

Transmission line distance protection with dynamic thermal line rating support
11th IET International Conference on Developments in Power Systems Protection (DPSP 2012), 2012Worldwide analysis of recent wide area cascading failures has shown that very often they were mainly caused by the mal-operation of the third zone of a distance protection relay. The load encroachment and power swing phenomena are the two dire problems to solve when dealing with the third zone of distance protection.

Overhead transmission lines dynamic line rating estimation in WAMS environments
2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP), 2015A loadability policy established on the basis of the Overhead Transmission Lines (OHLs) static thermal rating is referred to the worst-case conditions (i.e. zero wind speed). Whilst it reduces the potential misoperations, at the same time it implies an underuse of the electrical infrastructures.

Dynamic Connection Provisioning in Mixed-Line-Rate Optical Networks
Network Architectures, Management, and Applications VIII, 2010In this study, we investigate the dynamic connection provisioning problem in mixed-line-rate (MLR) optical networks. Fast heuristic algorithms are proposed for both fixed and tunable node architectures. Results show that our algorithm can significantly reduce the blocking probability and save the transceivers under tunable node architecture.

Probabilistic forecasting of dynamic line rating for over-head transmission lines
2015 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2015Rating of an overhead transmission line is defined as the maximum current that the line can safely carry without damaging the conductor. This current limit has been treated conventionally as a constant under the worst weather conditions. Dynamic line rating (DLR) is the current limit determined by real weather conditions surrounding the conductor ...

Sag/Tension Dynamical Line Rating System Architecture
2017Most countries record an increased demand for electricity, which is in contemporary power systems mostly transferred by overhead lines. To meet this increase in demand, the construction of new overhead lines is required. However, in terms of economy and ecology, this solution could be unacceptable so new solutions for increasing the transmission power ...

On selecting transmission lines for dynamic thermal line rating system implementation
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1992The author presents a systematic approach to: (1) selecting the candidate lines on which an implementation of a dynamic thermal line rating (DTLR) system will have the biggest return; and (2) determining the economic value of this undertaking. To develop this approach, information about contingently overloaded lines, which have the biggest impact on ...
