Model‐Based Systems Engineering in Space Applications: A Comprehensive Literature Review

open access: yesSystems Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The growing complexity of space engineering is driving the demand to embrace the adoption of Model‐Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Although the MBSE is well‐practiced in the space industry, the level of effort and need required to obtain the benefits of MBSE vastly differ across enterprises; this disparity presents a significant challenge to

Analyzing the effect of corona losses on dynamic line rating models for overhead transmission lines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
High-voltage transmission lines tend to generate corona activity. The value of corona losses is highly dependent on several parameters such as line configuration, conductor geometry, surface condition, operating voltage and weather conditions ...

Simulation of Stratospheric Water Vapor Trends: Impact on Stratospheric Ozone Chemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A transient model simulation of the 40-year time period 1960 to 1999 with the coupled climate-chemistry model (CCM) ECHAM4.L39(DLR)/CHEM shows a stratospheric water vapor increase over the last two decades of 0.7 ppmv and, additionally, a short-term ...

Modelling the Four‐Dimensional Power Line Sag Dynamics by Point Signature in Time‐Series Synthetic‐Aperture Radar Images

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Power lines in synthetic‐aperture radar (SAR) images are reflected as point signatures, which fluctuate annually in both the azimuth and range directions. A novel framework is proposed in this paper to evaluate the four‐dimensional dynamic status of power line sag using those point signatures in time‐series SAR images.

The Suaineadh Project : a stepping stone towards the deployment of large flexible structures in space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Suaineadh project aims at testing the controlled deployment and stabilization of space web. The deployment system is based on a simple yet ingenious control of the centrifugal force that will pull each of the four daughters sections apart.

SDFs from Unoriented Point Clouds using Neural Variational Heat Distances

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from unoriented point clouds. We first compute a small time step of heat flow (middle) and then use its gradient directions to solve for a neural SDF (right). Abstract We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from ...

Handwriting speed in left‐handed children with right‐sided neonatal brachial plexus palsy

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
This observational study investigated whether left‐handed children with right‐sided neonatal brachial plexus palsy (NBPP) exhibit reduced handwriting speed compared with typically developing left‐handed peers and explored determinants of any observed differences.

Spectral Characterization of the Life Stages and Physiological Responses of Diatraea saccharalis Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) Larvae Parasitized by Cotesia flavipes Cameron (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Hyperspectral proximal sensing was used to characterize the life stages and physiological responses of Diatraea saccharalis and to detect parasitism by Cotesia flavipes. Distinct spectral signatures differentiated eggs, larval instars, pupae, and adults, as well as live, dead, and parasitized larvae.

Analyzing the role of emissivity in stranded conductors for overhead power lines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Emissivity and absorptivity are important parameters in overhead power line conductors that depend on the conductor surface condition, so their values change as the conductors age.
