An efficient grid assembling method in unsteady dynamic motion simulation using overset grid
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2021Abstract The overset grid method may be a competitive choice of structured grid to discretize the progressively complicated aerodynamic shapes. Grid assembling process is a unique process for the overset grid method, which should be done repeatedly followed by any occurrence of grid motion in unsteady dynamic motion simulation.

On parallel implementations of dynamic overset grid methods
This paper explores the parallel performance of structured overset CFD computations for multicomponent bodies in which there is relative motion between component parts. The two processes that dominate the cost of such problems are the flow solution on each component and the inter-grid connectivity solution.

Investigation on the unstructured rotational dynamic overset grids
Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 2015Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate and improve a new method of unstructured rotational dynamic overset grids, which can be used to simulate the unsteady flows around rotational parts of aircraft. Design/methodology/approach – The computational domain is decomposed into two sub-domains, namely, the rotational sub-domain which contains

PEGASUS 5: An Automated Preprocessor for Overset-Grid Computational Fluid Dynamics
An all new, automated version of the PEGASUS software has been developed and tested. PEGASUS provides the hole-cutting and connectivity information between overlapping grids and is used as the final part of the grid-generation process for overset-grid computational fluid dynamics approaches.

Overset grid assembly approach for scalable computational fluid dynamics with body motions
Journal of Computational Physics, 2019Abstract A methodology for the decomposition of the overset grid assembly problem is presented and evaluated. The method is based on identifying grid subsets of a computational domain for which each domain connectivity is calculated individually, and combined at run time to obtain the final complete solution.

Dynamic overset grids in OpenFOAM with application to KCS self-propulsion and maneuvering
Ocean Engineering, 2015An implementation of the dynamic overset grid technique into naoe-FOAM-SJTU solver developed by using the open source code OpenFOAM is presented. OpenFOAM is attractive for ship hydrodynamics applications because of its high quality free surface solver and other capabilities, but it lacks the ability to perform large-amplitude motions needed for ...

Enhancement and Application of Overset Grid Assembly [PDF]
In this article, the overset grid assembly method is improved to efficiently solve several critical problems that occur when applying overset grids to the complicated geometries and moving body. First, instead of using the two-step searching (i.e.
