Local Inverse Mapping Implicit Hole-Cutting Method for Structured Cartesian Overset Grid Assembly [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
An automatic hole-cutting method is proposed to search donor cells between a structured Cartesian mesh and an overlapping body-fitted mesh. The main flow is simulated on the structured Cartesian mesh and the viscous flow near the solid boundary is ...

“Yin-Yang grid”: An overset grid in spherical geometry [PDF]

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2004
A new kind of overset grid, named Yin‐Yang grid, for spherical geometry is proposed. The Yin‐Yang grid is composed of two identical component grids that are combined in a complemental way to cover a spherical surface with partial overlap on their boundaries. Each component grid is a low‐latitude part of the latitude‐longitude grid.

Overset Grid Assembler and Flow Solver with Adaptive Spatial Load Balancing

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
An overset mesh approach is useful for unsteady flow problems which involve components moving relative to each other. Since the generation of a single mesh around all components is prone to mesh stretching due to the relative motion of bodies, using the ...

Enhancement and Application of Overset Grid Assembly

open access: yesChinese Journal of Aeronautics, 2010
AbstractIn this article, the overset grid assembly method is improved to efficiently solve several critical problems that occur when applying overset grids to the complicated geometries and moving body. First, instead of using the two-step searching (i.e.

Research developments in numerical methods of fluid-structure interactions in naval architecture and ocean engineering

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2022
It is a challenge to solve complex fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems through theoretical derivations, whereas numerical simulation provides an effective solution and is widely applied in naval architecture and marine engineering.

Numerical Simulation of Ship Maneuvers through Self-Propulsion

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
The typical maneuvering of a ship can reflect its maneuvering characteristics, which are closely related to the safety and economy of its navigation. The accurate prediction of a ship’s maneuvering characteristics is essential for its preliminary design.

Near-Body Grid Adaption for Overset Grids [PDF]

open access: yes46th AIAA Fluid Dynamics Conference, 2016
A solution adaption capability for curvilinear near-body grids has been implemented in the OVERFLOW overset grid computational fluid dynamics code. The approach follows closely that used for the Cartesian off-body grids, but inserts refined grids in the computational space of original near-body grids.

Modeling Hypersonic Flow over a Spiked Blunt Body Using Adaptive Mesh Refinement on an Overset Grid [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
In comparison to conventional single-grid methods, grid-adaptive overset techniques offer a strong, flexible, and efficient solution approach for computational fluid dynamics in the modeling of flows with complex interactions.

Research on the Performance of Pumpjet Propulsor of Different Scales

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
This study presents a numerical research on the open-water performance of a pumpjet propulsor at different scales. Simulations were performed by an in-house viscous CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) code. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) method
