Local Inverse Mapping Implicit Hole-Cutting Method for Structured Cartesian Overset Grid Assembly [PDF]
An automatic hole-cutting method is proposed to search donor cells between a structured Cartesian mesh and an overlapping body-fitted mesh. The main flow is simulated on the structured Cartesian mesh and the viscous flow near the solid boundary is ...

An Overset Grid Method for Fluid-Structure Interaction
An overset grid methodology is developed for the fully coupled analysis of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. The overset grid approach alleviates some of the computational geometry difficulties traditionally associated with Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) based, moving mesh methods for FSI.

Numerical study on the 6-DOF motions of ship turning in waves [PDF]
Ships are often disturbed by waves when they are sailing on sea, and the influence is usually not negligible. When a ship is manoeuvering in waves, the wave will seriously threaten the ship’s navigation safety.

Direct numerical simulation of particulate flows with an overset grid method
We evaluate an efficient overset grid method for two-dimensional and three-dimensional particulate flows for small numbers of particles at finite Reynolds number. The rigid particles are discretised using moving overset grids overlaid on a Cartesian background grid.

Oscillationless Explicit Method on Overset Grid for Advective Equation
2Characteristics of numerical errors using the overset grid method are investigated. The overset grid method has some problems with the interpolation of data between each mesh. In the case of the computing advective equation, a traveling wave passing through an interface of overlapping meshes causes numerical oscillations.

Numerical Simulation of Ship Maneuvers through Self-Propulsion
The typical maneuvering of a ship can reflect its maneuvering characteristics, which are closely related to the safety and economy of its navigation. The accurate prediction of a ship’s maneuvering characteristics is essential for its preliminary design.

Application of an overset grid method for the performance analysis of flapping airfoils
Abstract With the growing importance of renewable energy, the interest in energy-harvesting technologies based on flow-induced vibrations of airfoils has been rekindled in the past few years. Compared to conventional turbines, these devices are centrifugal stress-free and hence they are structurally more robust.

Investigation of Aeroelasticity Effect on Missile Separation from the Internal Bay
There is a strong aerodynamic interference when launching the missile in the embedded mode. During the separation process, the carrier aircraft safety may be threatened due to large slenderness ratio, low structural stiffness, and aeroelasticity effects ...
