Torsional testing of fresh cortical bovine bone showed highly divergent shear moduli at various sites in the middle part of the diaphysis of the right metacarpus. Two hundred samples taken from twenty-five bones were investigated with a free oscillating torsional pendulum to determine the dynamic shear modulus.
