Dynamic shear modulus and fabric: part II, stress reversal

Géotechnique, 1988
The dynamic shear modulus was measured during stress reversal in a torsional simple shear-resonant column device. The shear modulus measurements were then used to investigate the change in the fabric during shearing. It was assumed that the shear modulus was sensitive to the net loss of contacts associated with the development of fabric in the ...

Model for Dynamic Shear Modulus of Semiflexible Polymer Solutions

MRS Proceedings, 1997
AbstractWe discuss a dynamical model for the frequency-dependent shear modulus of an entangled solution of semifexible polymers, based on longitudinal fluctuations in filaments between entanglement points or crosslinks. The goal is to explain non-Rouse, power-law scaling of the bulk shear modulus that is found via microscopic rheology of highly ...

Dynamic shear modulus measurement technique for very soft materials.

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1996
Existing methods of dynamic viscoelastic properties measurements have some limitation with respect to softness of material, its spatial anisotropy, and frequency range. Specifically, there are very limited capabilities to measure dynamic shear moduli of very soft (real shear modulus value is below 104 Pa) and anisotropic materials such as biological ...

Shear Dynamic Modulus of Nematic Elastomers: Modified Rouse Model

Macromolecules, 2009
We develop a microscopic theory of dynamic mechanical properties of nematic elastomers taking the chain structure of network strands explicitly into account. We use an approach in which network strands are modeled as a sequence of Gaussian subchains, whose elasticity constants and friction coefficients are different for motions parallel and ...

Inference of Dynamic Shear Modulus from Lotung Downhole Data

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1996
Downhole ground motions recorded at the Lotung Large-Scale Seismic Test (LSST) site were used in this paper to infer in-situ dynamic soil properties. The purposes were (1) to provide field evidence of nonlinear soil behavior during earthquake excitation; and (2) to evaluate the accuracy of dynamic properties obtained from geophysical measurements and ...

INVESTIGATIONS FOR EVALUATION OF DYNAMIC SHEAR MODULUS OF SOILS

ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology, 1977
The determination of the dynamic shear modulus ‘G’ of soils, accounting for the various parameters affecting its value, has assumed a special significance in recent years in view of the advancements in the techniques for analysing dynamic soil-structure interaction problems.

Simple apparatus for measuring the dynamic shear modulus of cylindrical specimens

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1979
An apparatus is decribed which has been used to determine the shear modulus of cylindrical specimens vibrating in the torsional mode. The specimens are maintained in self-excited vibration by an eddy-current driver, an eddy-current pickup, and a feed back circuit consisting of a phase-locked-loop and an amplitude control module.

Evaluation of Shear Modulus and Damping in Dynamic Centrifuge Tests

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2005
Correct evaluation of shear modulus and damping characteristics in soils under dynamic loading is key to both the fundamental understanding of soil behavior and the practical application of soil modeling programs. Dynamic centrifuge tests can contribute significant information about soil behavior, but great care must be taken over the signal processing

Dynamic shear modulus of vocal-fold tissues and phonosurgical biomaterials

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
Knowledge of the mechanical properties of vocal fold tissues is necessary for the constitutive modeling of vocal-fold mechanics. Assuming transverse isotropy in a linear, elastic continuum model of vocal-fold tissues, five material constants are needed to solve the constitutive equation [D. A. Berry and I. R. Titze, J. Acoust. Model for Dynamic Shear Modulus and Damping for Granular Soils

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2000
This paper presents a simple four-parameter model that can represent the shear modulus factors and damping coefficients for a granular soil subjected to horizontal shear stresses imposed by vertically propagating shear waves. The input parameters are functions of the confining pressure and density and have been derived from a generalized effective ...
