Adaptive Airfoil Dynamic Stall Control

43rd AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2005
The purpose of this study was to investigate an adaptive airfoil design to alleviate, or greatly reduce, the negative effects of dynamic stall on rotorcraft blades. The adaptive airfoil design uses compliant structures technology to design an aerodynamically smooth, variable droop leading edge for airfoil dynamic stall control.

Thick Airfoil Deep Dynamic Stall

2014
Recent interest in vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) has surged due to their appearance in the built environment and their potential for deep water offshore applications. Their well-known advantages include insensitivity to the wind direction, proximity of the generator to the ground and relatively low noise levels.

Dynamic stall model for wind turbine airfoils

Journal of Fluids and Structures, 2007
A model is presented for aerodynamic lift of wind turbine profiles under dynamic stall. The model combines memory delay effects under attached flow with reduced lift due to flow separation under dynamic stall conditions. The model is based on a backbone curve in the form of the static lift as a function of the angle of attack.

Compressible studies on dynamic stall

27th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1989
The purpose of this work is to investigate the effects of compressibility on the dynamic stall phenomenon by numerical simulation of the unsteady flow. The full two-dimensional unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved for flows over oscillating airfoils and airfoils pitching rapidly to high angles of attack.

Unsteady and Post-Stall Model Identification Using Dynamic Stall Maneuvers

AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 2015
The purpose of this work is to identify a high angle of attack model of a turboprop aircraft using data from flight tests. The classic quasi-steady stall maneuver was modified to include elevator inputs during the approach to stall, as an effort to improve the estimation of dynamic derivatives.

Dynamic stall control via adaptive blowing

Renewable Energy, 2016
Abstract An aerodynamic load control concept termed “adaptive blowing” was successfully tested on a NACA 0018 airfoil model at Reynolds numbers ranging from 1.5·10 5 to 5·10 5 . The global objective was to eliminate lift oscillations typically encountered on wind turbine blade sections.
