Dynamic Stall and Aerodynamic Damping
Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 1998Riso̸ has developed a dynamic stall model that is used to analyze and reproduce open air blade section measurements as well as wind tunnel measurements. The dynamic stall model takes variations in both angle of attack and flow velocity into account. The paper gives a brief description of the dynamic stall model and presents results from analyses of ...

Investigation of dynamic stall onset
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2006Abstract In a 2003 test campaign in the DLR-VAG test stand unsteady pressure distributions during dynamic stall have been measured on a 2D-wing model with OA312 airfoil section. To investigate the effect of transition on dynamic stall onset different tripping devices have been fixed at the leading edge of the model.

Dynamic stall on a supercritical airfoil
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2005Summary: For the present investigations of dynamic stall a supercritical airfoil was chosen. This new airfoil designed by DLR will be used in dynamic stall control research activities (project ADASYS) planned for the near future: the leading edge portion of the airfoil will be drooped down dynamically to improve dynamic stall characteristics on the ...

On the Mechanism of Dynamic Stall
Journal of the American Helicopter Society, 1972The sequence of events comprising dynamic stall of an airfoil is discussed, with emphasis on the role of the leading edge laminar separation bubble and shed vortex. A simple bubble model, based on a combination of theoretical and experimental investigations, is used to discuss the events prior to the shedding of the vortex, and provides the basis for ...

Dynamic Stall Experiments on Oscillating Airfoils
AIAA Journal, 1975Dynamic stall and unsteady boundary layer separation have been studied in incompressible flow at moderately large Reynolds numbers. By varying the leading-edge geometry of an NACA 0012 airfoil, three different types of stall were produced. For most of the configurations studied, including the basic NACA 0012 profile, dynamic stall was found not to ...

Dynamic stall on a fully equipped helicopter model [PDF]
Abstract Three-dimensional dynamic stall was observed on the rotor of a fully equipped subscale helicopter model in a wind tunnel. Results of stereoscopic particle image velocimetry measurements on the retreating blade clearly revealed the large-scale dynamic stall vortex at 50% and 60% blade radius.

Effects of compressibility on dynamic stall
AIAA Journal, 1991In this paper, typical computational predictions and experimental measurements of compressible flow past an airfoil at dynamic stall conditions are studied and compared to develop an insight into the effect of compressibility on dynamic stall. The dependency of the critical Mach number on airfoil leading edge curvature, camber, and angle of attack is ...

Aeronautical Quarterly, 1982
SummaryThe unsteady breakdown or stall of streamlined flow near the rounded leading edge of an aerofoil, as the small angle of attack is raised above its critical stall value, is studied theoretically for large Reynolds number motion. The unsteady developments take place first over a relatively slow time scale but then the corresponding solution breaks

Some Measurements on Dynamic Stall
Journal of Aircraft, 1974Details of a flow oscillation device and of force and moment measurements on a 2 ft chord twodimensional NACA 0012-64 airfoil in the oscillating flow and oscillated in pitch in a steady flow through stall are presented. Results indicate that both methods give essentially the same description of the dynamic stall process.
