Crack initiation characteristics of ring chain of heavy-duty scraper conveyor under time-varying loads

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
Crack initiation characteristics of ring chain of heavy-duty scraper conveyor under time-varying loads were investigated in this study. The dynamic tension of ring chain of the heavy-duty scraper conveyor was obtained using the time-varying dynamic ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The Hydrodynamic Similarity between Different Power Levels and a Dynamic Analysis of Ocean Current Energy Converter–Platform Systems with a Novel Pulley–Traction Rope Design for Irregular Typhoon Waves and Currents

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
In the future, the power of a commercial ocean current energy convertor will be able to reach the MW class, and its corresponding mooring rope tension will be very good. However, the power of convertors currently being researched is still at the KW class,

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Dynamic Characteristic of Conductor After Ice-Shedding and Simulation Analysis of the Tension Insulator String

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Electric power fittings are the link between conductors and transmission towers, and it is essential to improve their ability to withstand damage. To obtain the actual load of electric power fittings and study the stress of each electric power fitting ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Musical Tension Associated With Violations of Hierarchical Structure

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2020
Tension is one of the core principles of emotion evoked by music, linking objective musical events and subjective experience. The present study used continuous behavioral rating and electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate the dynamic process of ...

Impact dynamics of surfactant laden drops: dynamic surface tension effects [PDF]

open access: yesExperiments in Fluids, 2009
We study the impact and subsequent retraction of aqueous surfactant-laden drops upon high-speed impact on hydrophobic surfaces. Without surfactants, a rapid expansion of the drop due to the fluid inertia is followed by a rapid retraction, due to the wetting incompatibility. With surfactants, the retraction can be partly or completely inhibited.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
