Do Lagged Ecosystem Feedbacks to Hydroclimate Extremes Promote Resilience of Forest Watersheds?

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Hydroclimate extremes (e.g., droughts and wet periods) can significantly alter forest ecohydrological processes. Severe growing‐season droughts can reduce leaf area index (LAI), tree conductivity, and growing‐season length through early senescence. These

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Theoretical analysis on lower band cascade as a mechanism for multiband chorus in the Earth’s magnetosphere

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
Whistler-mode waves play a crucial role in controlling electron dynamics in the Earth’s Van Allen radiation belt, which is increasingly important for spacecraft safety. Using THEMIS waveform data, Gao et al. [X. L. Gao, Q. Lu, J. Bortnik, W. Li, L. Chen,

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

GORDON GOODWIN’S BIG PHAT BAND: AN EXAMPLE OF THE MODERN BIG BAND [PDF]

open access: yesStudiul Artelor şi Culturologie: Istorie, Teorie, Practică, 2021
Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band is one of the most famous jazz orchestras of the 21st century that combines the style of big bands from the swing era with the contemporary ones such as funk and jazz fusion. Th e scores of the Big Phat Band demonstrate an

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
