The Critique of Deliberative Discussion. A Response to “Education for Deliberative Democracy: A Typology of Classroom Discussions

open access: yes, 2017
My response to Samuelsson’s (2016) recent essay offers a different paradigm with which to think about education, deliberative discussion and democracy. I call this paradigm the critique of deliberative discussion.

Fast Charge–Discharge of LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05 Enabled by a Bikitaite‐Infused Separator for Li Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bikitaite‐infused cellulose separator is introduced for Li metal batteries, leveraging bikitaite zeolite's ion‐conductive properties to regulate Li+‐ion flux and suppress dendrite growth. The membrane design ensures uniform Li plating, enhanced electrolyte wettability, and robust thermal/mechanical stability, delivering stable performance and low ...

X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...

Giving Power Its Due: The Powerful Possibilities and the Problems of Power with Deliberative Democracy and English Language Learners. A Response to Deliberative Democracy in English-Language Education: Cultural and Linguistic Inclusion in the School Community

open access: yes, 2015
The use of deliberation with English Language Learners presents possibilities to both improve language learning, but also expand the potential for civics education for all students.

Memristor‐Driven Active‐Matrix Organic Light‐Emitting Diode for Energy Efficient and High‐Resolution Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that memristors can replace conventional 2T–1C driving circuits with simplified 1T–1 m architectures by exploiting resistance switching. With ultra‐low switching voltages (< ±0.2 V) and multi‐level resistance states, the memristors precisely control the current injected into organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Ethics in Teaching for Democracy and Social Justice

open access: yes, 2015
In this essay, I offer provocations toward an ethics of teaching for democracy and social justice. I argue that while driven by compelling macro social and political visions, social justice teachers do not pay sufficient attention to the moral dimensions

Rationally Designed Bilayer Passivation Strategy for High‐Performance Vacuum‐Processed Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bilayer “Anchor‐and‐Seal” passivation strategy using EDAI2 and 4MeO‐PEAI effectively mitigates surface defects in vacuum‐processed perovskite films through synergistic hydrogen bonding and Lewis base coordination. This approach optimizes interfacial energy alignment and suppresses non‐radiative recombination, enabling vacuum‐deposited p‐i‐n ...

Solution‐Processed Two‐Dimensional Indium Oxide on Sodium‐Embedded Alumina for Reconfigurable Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale two‐dimensioanl In2Se3 oxidized into InOx on sodium‐embedded beta‐alumina enables multifunctional reconfigurable electronics. Sodium ions accumulate within distinct spatial distribution under drain‐controlle and gate‐controlled operation. Drain‐control operation gives controllability of ultraviolet‐driven optoelectronic synaptic conductance
