Behavioral learning equilibria in New Keynesian models

open access: yesQuantitative Economics, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 1401-1445, November 2023., 2023
We introduce Behavioral Learning Equilibria (BLE) into a multivariate linear framework and apply it to New Keynesian DSGE models. In a BLE, boundedly rational agents use simple, but optimal AR(1) forecasting rules whose parameters are consistent with the observed sample mean and autocorrelation of past data.

Efficiency with endogenous population growth. Do children have too many rights?

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 18, Issue 4, Page 1375-1406, November 2023., 2023
Fertility rates are declining in many countries. But are fertility rates inefficiently low? This paper addresses this question by exploring the efficiency properties of equilibria in an overlapping generations setting with endogenous fertility and dynastic parental altruism, using the notion of ‐efficiency proposed by Golosov, Jones and Tertilt (2007).

On the Optimality of the Oja's Algorithm for Online PCA [PDF]

open access: yesStat. Comput., 33:e62, 2023, 2021
In this paper we analyze the behavior of the Oja's algorithm for online/streaming principal component subspace estimation. It is proved that with high probability it performs an efficient, gap-free, global convergence rate to approximate an principal component subspace for any sub-Gaussian distribution.

Fiscal multipliers: A heterogeneous‐agent perspective

open access: yesQuantitative Economics, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 799-816, July 2023., 2023
We use an analytically tractable heterogeneous‐agent (HANK) version of the standard New Keynesian model to show how the size of fiscal multipliers depends on (i) the distribution of factor incomes, and (ii) the source of nominal rigidities. With sticky prices but flexible wages, the standard representative‐agent (RANK) model predicts large multipliers ...
