A Novel Approach to Energy Management in Electric Steelworks

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate electric energy consumptions of the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace processes. The models are used to optimize production schedule so that more energy intensive grades are produced when the cost of energy is lower.

Developments in electric arc furnace steelmaking

open access: yes, 2001
In recent years, the growth of EAF steelmaking and the corresponding push for improved productivity and lower energy usage, has seen a blurring of the boundary between oxygen and electric steelmaking and a departure from the pure batch processing ...

Decreasing the Environmental Impact of the Electric Steelmaking Route Through Advanced Modelling Techniques

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Ensemble models are adopted to estimate the sterile content of scraps arriving to the scrap yard. Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate steel composition and temperature after Ladle furnace. The models are validated on data from two steelworks very satisfactory results and are inherently transferable to other steelworks, as they are ...

Modeling the Thermal Properties of Hydrogen‐Based Direct Reduced Iron Using Computational Thermodynamics and Machine Learning

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrogen‐based direct reduced iron (H‐DRI) melts differently from scrap and carbon‐bearing DRI. This work combines differential scanning calorimetry experiments, FactSage thermodynamics, and simple composition‐based regression to predict solidus, liquidus, heat capacity, and enthalpy for H‐DRI.

The Application of Hydrochar Composite Briquettes for Sustainable Slag Foaming in the Electric Arc Furnace Process

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

Recycling of Waste Oxides in Steelmaking - Final Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
This research primarily examined the use of waste oxide briquettes (WOB), prepared from blast furnace and basic oxygen furnace (BOF) dusts and mill scale, in BOFs and in particular, the reasons for the methods to reduce slopping in BOF when WOBs are used.

Application of Iron Ladle Injecting Dephosphorization of Hot Metal in 70t AOD 1-Step 400 Series Stainless Steel Steelmaking Process

open access: yesTeshugang, 2017
The iron ladle injecting dephosphorization process is adopted to supply quality low phosphorus hot metal for a 70t AOD to melt 400 series stainless steel and replace the EAF melting link at stainless steel works, finally the new 1-step stainless steel ...

Barriers to Steel Decarbonization

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Main identified barriers to steel decarbonization Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are a leading contributor to global climate change, necessitating urgent mitigation strategies. While various metrics—such as total national emissions, per‐capita output, and historical contributions—define responsibility, determining accountability remains complex ...

Techno-economic aspects of Alternative Metallic Charges in EAF Steelmaking [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Electrical arc furnace steelmaking originated with the work of Sir Williams Siemens who in 1878 constructed, operated and patented furnaces operating on both the direct arc and indirect arc principles. The development of the electric melting

Phosphorus Equilibrium Between Liquid Iron and CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3-FeO-P2O5 Slags: EAF Slags, the Effect of Alumina and New Correlation

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The increased use of electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking using up to 100% direct reduced iron (DRI) has prompted an interest in better control of phosphorus since iron ore and, consequently, DRI have higher phosphorus and silica compared to scrap ...
